Bocas del Toro Firearms Laws
Posted: Sat February 8, 2003 07:49 AM UTC
I am hoping to relocate to the Bocas del Toro island region of Panama. Would I be allowed to bring my personal firearms. I understand that there are some crime problems and I would like to be assured that I would be allowed to defend myself and family. In particular, I have an L1A1 .308 semiautomatic rifle, AR-15 type semiautomatic rifle, and .45 cal pistol, as well as several shotguns and hunting rifles. Are there any gun bans in effect, or licensing or registration requirements for firearms. Also, is concealed-carry of a handgun permitted or licensed in Panama? Thank you.

This is what I found so far. I'm also interested in your topic. Looking at living in Altos del Maria.

Yeah, what the FRICK man. Take guns? They don't get the crime and murders in Panama like you get here in the states, because they prefer to party and lay back. Most crime there is PETTY theft, or burglery but its best to leave your gun behind before a real situation occurs. Stay in Idaho or Utah.

Weapons and ammunition require an original invoice and registration at origin (to you)

A special permit at the Firearm and Explosive Department must be applied for,

Import tax applicable

Must be for personal use only (would not have it any other way.)

Looks ok to me, I am looking at a retirement in the interior. I have virtually the same lineup as you list (imagine that).

protocols.

I suspect this link would be more appropriate, as the previous post links to Costa Rica, not Panama.

Good advice here as well: "Since every country has its own laws and customs, it's a good idea to study the etiquette and customs of your destination country beforehand. This will help you avoid any inadvertent problems after you've relocated. The country's consulate is an excellent source of this information."

I wouldn't recomend taking those weapons to Bocas either. Just get yourself a good watcheyman when you get there if you are so concerned about crime. It does happen but with all those weapons I think you'd be asking for trouble from the locals and the local police. I agree with the previous post that the # of murders is way lower than here in the US.

I too was interested in the gun laws in Panama.
I have a large collection and would be leaving a large part in my sons care who will be getting them in 30 years or so anyway LOL.

Some of these moronic anti gun idiots crack me up.
They would rather submit to rape & murder then defend that which God gave us (life).
I am not overly religious but I do value my life over that of scum.
I do intend to keep my word and defend with my own life that of my wife.
The right to defend ones life is a right not a privilege.
The right to meet and attacker with the same or better force is my right.
To all the anti gun morons on this thread I say you live your life and I'll live mine.
I will of course reserve the right to end yours if you attack me or mine.

So you want to call people on this forum ideotic MORONS. Let me say this to you my small minded friend. I didn't see any kind of constructed pages on your behalf. With so little to contribute here, I am lead to believe that you must be some half crazed kid that never left the country, nor served in our military, nor speak the SPANISH language, nor know or care about anything about culture or history of anyplace. You need a gun to make you feel like more of a man, and think everyone else is a moron because they choose to avoid guns. You swallow the media line, hook and sinker. You probably don't buy FRENCH FRIES nor FRENCH WINE because you agree the FOX NEWS channel at their word. You go ahead and take your firearms to Panama. I want to see the look on your face when you come to your little shack one evening and find everything ramsacked and some Panamanian kid walking around Bocas sporting their new found weapon. The same weapon that may kill you when you get held up.
