Carmel-by-the-Sea Hotel by the sea

I do not find any hotel with a direct access to the ocean either in Carmel or in Monterey or in Seaside.
Does this kind of accomodation exist ? Or Clint eastwood has forbidden the building of hotels along the sea shore.

Thanks

Guyon, check out Pacific Heights which is right next to Monterey. There are several B&Bs and motels right on or near the ocean there. We stayed at a cute little place called the Red Rose or something like that. It was right next to a walking path along the coast.. inexpensive, too, about 10 years ago.

Carmel, probably not on the water. In Pacific the Green Gables is on the water. In Monterrey there are lots of places on the bay. The Monterrey Inn is on the bay . It has otters in front and free binoculars to look at them. You can walk to cannery row or fishermans warf from there.

By the way, Clint Eastwood hasn't been the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea for about 15 years. And he never had any jurisdiction over Monterey or Seaside!

The seashore on the Monterey Peninsula is not, thank God, the same kind of experience as it is in many other dreadfully built-up places. There are no monstrous hotels on the beach--probably because the beach in Central CA isn't really a good place for sunbathing or swimming. The Carmel beach is accessible on foot from the center of this very small town, so if you stay there, you can just walk to it. If you stay anywhere within a few blocks of the beach in Monterey or Pacific Grove, you can also walk to it (check the hotel address on Mapquest.com to see where it's physically located). Seaside is a little more car-intensive--I'm not sure there are many motels close to the water. It is more of a residential area.
