I am thinking of visiting Timisoara in the summer -- I am vegetarian -- will I be able to eat out in restauarants and cafes? or are most local dishes meat and fish and fowl?

Of course you know that in most places anywhere in the world, meat is main food.
But I ate plenty of vegetables in Romania so I guess you'll be alright if you ask for something without meat.

'cascaval pane' or a chedder-like cheese fried in bread crumbs was a vegertarian friend of mine's staple over there. There are some good vegetable ciorbas, sour soups, available, as well as vegetarian pizzas.

how bad of a vegitarian are you? If you're vegan, you're screwed. But if you're the typical variety that will still eat dairy like cheese and yogurt and stuff you should be ok. Because you'll be there during the summer, there should be lots of fresh veggies available, just be prepared to be living of a very limited menu, or to cook for yourself if you can.

Thanks for responding -- I'm visiting in mid-July and it seems I may be living on cheese!
