Heading to Mildura/Mungo Park on 1 or 2 January for a few days touring the area (Melbourne-Bendigo-Mildura-Euchuca-Melbourne). Any tips for places not to be missed on the drive through?

Get info on Mungo in Buronga on the way through. The National Parks office is at the corner Sturt Highway and Melaleuca Street, over the river from Mildura. If you're interested in archaeology/prehistory, the more info the better.
Bendigo has a very interesting Chinese museum, garden and temple. Echuca has a reconstructed old town down by the Murray with paddle steamer cruises. Along the Murray there are numerous small lakes with wildlife.

I can advise Hattah-Kulkyne National Parc, a typical mallee reserve. You can find at the waterholes Kangaroes and many birds, and you see the typical native trees and vegetation! It is just south of the Hattah gas station the entrance. At the station a nice roadsign with all the large cities in the world!
