| Puerto Escondido | accommodation options Posted: Fri December 17, 2004 11:21 PM UTC
Hi I have a friend travelling to PE in Feb 2005 who is looking for advice on accommodation. She has heard of Papaya Surf being ok. Does anyone have experience of staying there recently or suggest any other places that are good. She also mentioned a place called Playa Zicatela, a place rther than a hotel I think if anyone knows anything about it??
Thanks Daniel |

Hello,
i was in Puerto this summer,Zicatela is a bit more private,it is close to the main beach-HUGE waves. There is a very nice and fun hostel there called HOTEL mayflower. Mookie

I am from that area and know it pretty well, although I now am in the states mostly. Playa Zicatela is a place, not a hotel. It is populated with mostly surfers from Australia to Mexico and everywhere inbetween. It is a lot more laid back than anywhere else in the area. There is a close-knit community locals, surfers and life guards that makes you really feel at home, especially if you are a girl. Don't stay anywhere else. I would recommend the hostel 'A La Casa' but I understand it is under new management, so I can't say if it is still a good place to say. Let's see, you could try the 'Rockaway' it is clean and inexpensive there and there is a pool. If you decide to stay in a hostel make sure it is ligit by checking if they have any drug rules. We checked out a place that was way shady. There is also 'El Aleman'.
