Affordable nice place to stay in Manhattan Posted: Wed February 5, 2003 02:58 PM UTC
Hi!
My friend and I will be meeting in NYC the weekend of the 14th and 15th and are looking for an affordable yet nice double room or junior suite to stay in Mahattan. Any suggestions?
Anyone heard of the Madison Hotel? Or the Herald Square? Would you recommend them?
Thanks in advance! Vanessa

Well we have found hotels that don't seem to be bad at all for 130$ a night per double room (all included) .... which to me is very affordable for Manhattan

Hi Vanessa,
I can suggest you to call the Da Vinci hotel (212-489-4100) which is located on 56th. street between Broadway and 8th. Ave. It is a very nice property and I believe that a budget of $130 should be fine. The rooms are not that big but very nice and clean.
Good luck, Nathalie

Hi Vanessa,
My friends and I stayed at the Hotel Moderne a couple of times....the rooms were about that same price range and the location was perfect! It included breakfast and comfy Belgian lace sheets on the beds! ;->
Right near Times Square where we walked to catch our show!
Travelzoo.com has specials running all the time for NYC where you can get 2 nights for the price of 1 at some hotels. Might be worth checking out!
Have fun,
G_G

Check out the Portland Square Hotel on 47st between 6th and Broadway (Times Square). The rooms are small but the hotel is pretty nice.
When comparing rates check whether they include taxes which are very high in New York City.

Thanks for the tip Pedro! We will actually be staying at the Herald Square, which is giving us a rate of 138 per night for a double room, taxes and occupancy included.
The Moderne and Da Vinci were unfortunately full that weekend....

I don't think you can do cheaper than that. The TKTS both in Times Square (where you get theater tickets half price for the day of the show) has no lines and is offering many good shows. There are very few tourists here during this time. Most of my friends are heading south :-) Write to me if you need any further tips.
