I am going to do an internship in Haren, next to Groningen, next year.
Is it a cosmopolitan city? If not, is it easy to travel to Amsterdam and Utrecht? And how can I find accomodation? What do you suggest? It's hard to find fellowships, so I am pretty much screwed money-wise... |

hi!
I know a few people who have studied in Groningen and I have visited the city myself. It has a good feel to it, it has a big student influx so lots of places to go food and drink wise. Can't you organize a place to stay thru the internship? Its close to Germany should you want to travel over the border, walk the seabeds to the islands (wadden), its not very close to Utrecht or Adam but because the country is small its not trekking thru Siberia either. The train connections to Groningem are very good. I am sure you will enjoy it! loreli

No worries about Groningen. Even though it is up north it has a very good nighlife and also it is very culturally oriented. Have been to a few parties over there and always had a brilliant time. Also used to live in Haren but that was when i was a little kid. But can still remember taht we went out sailing a lot on one of the lakes and headed up to Schiermonnikoog (one of the wadden-islands) often. And in case you need some variation. Utrecht is about 2 hours by train, amsterdam about the same i would say. Ask member Nighthawk for more info, she lives in Groningen and might help you out with any questions you might have

Utrecht is one of the best cities to study in. You'll have an absolute great time i promise. And drink one for me will you when you're sitting on a terrace alongside the canal (oude gracht).
