Ko Tao Weather in Koh Tao, Samui and Diving information
Posted: Wed December 8, 2004 02:11 PM UTC
Hi to all,

I would like to ask abt the weather in Koh tao and also in Samui as well. I will be planning to dive in Koh tao and Koh Nangyuan and am worried abt the monsoon.

Is the under water current strong now? I'm still an inexperience diver hence i'm worried. WIll arrive ard Dec 27. Is there any particular dive shop that is good and has good equipment too?

I'm really desperate to get these answers! Plaes help!

It's difficult to tell what the weather will be like then. That is a transition period between the wet and dry season in Samui. You may be unlucky and get rain or it may be dry with sunshine. It's all a question of luck. Samui being an island in the tropics means it is never easy to accurately predict what the weather will be like. Statistically the further you get into January the drier it will become.

I've only been to Koh Tao in March and July so I'm not sure what the dive conditions will be like when you are visiting. When me and my wife last visited in July the sea was choppy (and the crossing from Samui was rough with 2 metre swell), but the dive sites just off the beach at Koh Nangyuan (such as Japanese Gardens) are fairly sheltered from the weather. Another dive site to consider is Mango Bay, which is further round the coast from Nangyuan. That side of Koh Tao seems to be more sheltered from the weather. My wife went diving at both sites to a depth of about 15 metres and underwater visibility was about 10-15 metres. I've also seen people dive right off Nangyuan beach before so that might be another option rather than jumping straight off the boat. I'm not sure though what the dive conditions will be like though in December.

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

Hey

Was there first two weeks of december last year and had great weather : but two weeks earlier they had a big storm...

So what to say : I dives 20 times there and did my exams for rescue diver : just the day of the exam (the last day) we had some high tides and man ! Then it is really difficult with 1.3m high waves to do rescue course !

But the other days we had fantastic sunshine ! It is a period where there is a chance for bad weather, but not much.

A dive shop : well, I used Coral Grand Diver and I think they are the best dive shop on the island : they have new equipment (change every 2 months), new boats and 5 star training.

Have a good time !

Peter
