| Brooklyn | Jersey City Commute to Brooklyn Posted: Tue December 7, 2004 10:45 PM UTC
I am moving to Jersey City and need to find out the best time and route to get down to Brooklyn. This will be by car.
I have to be in brooklyn by at least 10am. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I think www.mapquest.com will sort out a route for you.

brooklyn is a big place - can you give us the neighborhood or area of interest? It will definitely change the advice.

I work in all of brooklyn but a way to get to the dowtown part would be great. I know NJ trffic can be hectic. I know of the Holland Tunnel to Canal Street then over the bridge, but b/c of the traffic it took me 2 hours (normally 30-40min trip). Is there a better route with less traffic? Or maybe a better time to travel when I wont experience such a delay?
Thank you for your help

there are really only two alternatives, neither really great. The first is to go thru the tunnel and take the west side drive to the battery tunnel (and pay yet another toll), The second is also expensive, but doable is you are in the southern part of Jersey City. Take the bayonne bridge (toll) to staten island and then head for the Verezano bridge (big toll). It is of value to note that like the Holland tunnel, tolls are only going one way on these two crossings, so going different ways morning and afternoon could save you some dollars. Nasty trip, man, good luck.
