| Gloucestershire | The Cotswolds Posted: Tue December 7, 2004 01:29 AM UTC
Hello. I am planning a holiday in England next May which will include a 3 day visit to the Cotswolds. I am having trouble deciding which would be the best town to stay in. I will be hiring a car to get around to the villages. My list is down to Evesham and Cheltenham. Which of these would be the most accessible to villages such as Broadway, the Slaughters, Bourton on the Water etc. I don't intend travelling too far south. Any other suggestions will be gladly received.
Thank you and cheers................Louise |

Where you stay won't make much difference. The Cotswolds is not a big area and it won't take you long to get around the villages with a car. Cheltenham will have the biggest choice of accommodation in the area.

ps Broadway, the Slaughters and Bourton amount to a half-day trip, so make sure you plan some other local activities. Gloucester cathedral is a must, for those who like mediaeval churches. Cirencester should also be on your list. Those are my opinions anyway...

In UK terms Cheltenham is quite a large town, Evesham is much smaller, I suggest you do not try to stay in any of the Cotswold "attraction" villiages as prices will be quite high. My choice would be Evesham or Cirencester, even Stroud is within easy reach of the "tourist" Cotswolds.

My favorite is Chipping Campden. Lots of B&B's, good restaurants and right in the midst of lots of little villages. Don't miss Snowshill.
