Tarangire National Park What is the Tarangire Safari Lodge like?

Could someone please tell us about their stay at the Tarangire Safari Lodge? We have heard very different reports about it. Is it OK? Are there very many animals around there?

Tarangire Safari lodge is situated on a large ridge in the Tarangire Park. The lodge is very old and looks a bit run down when you enter. We have featured it purely because of the spectacular view guests have from their rooms and from the main buildings. The view overlooks the Tarangire River and throughout most of the season you can see the wildlife below (especially elephants) grazing. It is fantastic to see. This will provide you with a good look at what Africa has to offer. As mentioned, the lodge is old and is in need of a good renovation. The staff are a bit slow but always friendly. I hope to hear from you and if you like to travel to tanzania, you can contact me

I've been at the Tarangire Sopa Lodge and it was a great experience!
There are a lot of animals down there, especially during the dry season!

The lodge is not all that modern, but has great views to the river below. You can stay in large tents with ensuite shower or in stone bungalows. I would recommend the tents - much more atmospheric. The food is OK. It also has a swimming pool. Recently been revamped a bit, it is not bad value for money and you are in the heart of the park. There are lots of other lodges around Tarangire NP, some quite up market. All in all Tarangire Safari lodge is a safe bet.
Tarangire has lots of animals at certain times of the year. Between Nov - June, when there is lots of grass & water around it can be quite empty, but you will always find elephants and resident game like impala, baboon. In the dry months everything comes back to the Tarangire river which runs through the park and it is teaming with animals. Have a great trip Nigel
