travelling Vietnam/Cambodia during Jan/Feb

Can anyone give me some sort of insight as to the craziness in Vietnam and Cambodia during Tet??? Is it only busy during the actual day of the event or the month before and after? Is it difficult to get accomodation? Is it difficult to get trains? Thanks!

Well I dont know much about tet in cambodia, or if they even have it, but I can help you about vietnam.

It begins to get crazy about a month before tet, then one or two weeks before it its practically impossible to do anything cuz everyone is busy stocking up and buying their tet stuff (all stores are closed during the week of tet). During the actual week of tet its extremely calm, this is because everyone is at home with their family.

Things do get more expensive right before tet, but its a great time to visit vietnam, you definitely have to see all the cumcuat trees and peach blossoms being sold along the streets. I dont think it should be any more difficult getting accomodation during tet, and im dont know about trains. Hope its helped!

\we've arrived in Vietnam a week befor Tet. Everything and everyone is very bussy, but we didn't have any dificulties. The markets are packed, and lively, no problem with accomodation, or trains. During Tet itself things get calmer. I don't know about all trains, but we came back from Sapa with a train during yhat week. It's a great time to be in Vietnam
