i was just wondering how to get to Ullapool from skye

Just get off the island by bridge and take the direction "north". If the situation hasn't changed, there's only one road that leads there, so you can't miss it. It is one of the most beautiful routes in Scotland. Enjoy !

Hi - it is certainly one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland - between Skye and Ullapool - so if yo uhave a car do drive it and take your time to explore the smaller roads and beaches (see many of my tips for pictures).

If you don't have a car and don't want to hitch, then the best thing is to catch the coach. City Link Coaches go from Portree / Uig on Skye to Inverness, where you get another coach to Ullapool. See map again.

If you have a car and don't mind single track roads, then take the long way through Gairloch as it's well worth the drive!

By far the quickest way will be by car. If the weather's not too bad and you have time you can not only visit Gairloch, but also make a real day of it, and cover the applecross Penninsula: there is one marvellous piece of road (if you're not a nervous driver) that takes you through a series of hairpin bends and through the Bealach na Ba.

If you have to do it by public transport, and you opt for the bus to Inverness, you'll probably need to spend the night in Inverness (the schedules aren't very regular). Alternatively you can get the bus to Kyle then the train to Garve then the train from Garve to Ullapool and that will take around 4 hours. If you leave around 10.15, you'll be in Ullapool by just after three in the afternoon.

I will be driving from edinburgh up to culrain, staying overnight in the youth hostel castle, then across to dunrobin and up the east coast to wick... from wick I will travel to ullapool via bettyhill... then from ullapool to skye...

Can anynoe make suggestions of possible places to stay overnight, and other things to do in the areas I am travelling through. after edinburgh I have 7-10 days.
