Hello everybody. I have actually 2 questions:
1) Ive read everywhere on the net that Esmeralda Tour was the best agency to do the jeep tour. Ive tried to reach them but they won't pick up the phone. Was someone recently there and could tell me if they're still in business? and what is the best way to reach them (email?)

2) I would like to use this tour operator but starting from San Pedro De Sula and ending at uyuni. Do you know if it's possible? the lonely planet mentions few agencies that do the tour from San Pedro but they can't recommend any of them. I wish I could book the tour with Esmeralda from San Pedro.

3) here's a last one: do we have to book in advance or can we just show up there?

Not sure on the exact agencies but showing up and scoring a jeep tour should be no problem and you may actually be able to cut a better price. Uyuni is out i bit to get to so considering the other agencies may be worth it. Whatever you decide, make sure you do this trip. I have been all over the world and to this day it is one of the best experiences of my life. The scenery is spectacular!

I saw your message posted on the forum when I was about to ask the same question. I will be traveling in South America in January and February and it is on my plans to do the same trip. I would like to book a trip from S. Pedro de Atacama as well that will cross the Bolivian Altiplano, Salar de Uyuni and drop me at Uyuni, ideally.
I know that there are round trips from Uyuni city and as you said, the other way round (Bolivia to Chile).
1) Does anyone has a rough idea how much it costs the trip we want to do? And whether it is cheaper the round trip in Bolivia?
2) Also, is it worth to do this trip in January?

last august i had the great change to visit the salt of uyuni. i did the trip with 5 foreigner people. we started from uyuni. one of them, left the tour in the border with chile. he went to san pedro de atacama. so, as i`ve heard from him he took a jeep from the border to san pedro. the name of the company is COLQUE TOURS.
sorry, i don`t have any idea about the travel agency that you mention.
i heard that colque tours company is one of the oldest one. so, i think that it may be another choice for you.

defenetely, you can`t miss the salt of uyuni. perhaps you can check out my page. i have some info there.

we try to help our friends. although i didn`t went on that travel agency some of my friends told me that this is one of the best.
but, aren`t you dan hopkings? that`s ok. but i`m glad to hear that you ever visited us.

ps. by the way, if you read this post friend i took JULIET TOURS. it was really wonderful. i didn`t mention it `cause they don`t get to san pedro de atacama. only they can leave you in the border with chile.
