Cabanatuan City How do I get to Cabanatuan from Manila
Posted: Mon November 29, 2004 05:17 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be travelling in the Philippines in December. My Grampa was captured at Corregidor and held at Cabanatuan before taking a Hell Ship to Japan and it is very important for me to see this American Memorial at Cabanatuan. I have a book on the Philippines and it has no advice for travel to Cabanatuan. I would like to know what my options are to travel to Cabanatuan City from Manila, how much each option costs and also how to get to the Memorial from Cabanatuan city. Any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks, Christine

Cabanatuan City is in Nueva Ecija, approximately 3 hours from Manila/EDSA. There are airconditioned buses going to Cabanatuan from EDSA, mostly Cagayan and Aurora bound buses. I suggest either Baliwag Transit or Victory Liner. I don;t know the exact fare but is should not be more than P250 per person, one way.

You may also rent a car with driver but this is more expensive (P2,000-P2,500, round trip). Besides Cabanatuan is not that far and the road is good.

Thanks so much for your advice. Do you know if I can then continue North from Cabanatuan City to Banaue? How would you suggest I do that? Thanks, Christine

yes you can do that as cabanatuan is along the route to banaue. however, most banaue or bontoc-bound buses leave manila at night which means it would pass cabanatuan late, late into the night. unless, there are buses going the same direction coming from another province (not manila) earlier. also, all the seats might be taken by the time the bus reaches cabanatuan and you won't want to spend 8 hours sitting on the floor.

i suggest you call autobus (+63 2 736-2831, 735-8096) or cable tours (+63 919 386-2159) and ask assistance regarding your situation. they could probably reserve a seat for you, your pick up time and point, etc.

you may even wish to extend your trip to sagada which is 3 hours by jeep on rough. winding road from banaue.

watch out for travel advisory on cabanatuan before heading toward that direction. it's recently submerged in flood that caused severe damages to roads, bridges, properties, and lives.

Cabanatuan is more than 100 kilometers from manila. approx 3 hours of travel. busfare is around 150. you can take baliwag transit or e.s. transport or 5 star bus lines all located along edsa in cubao, quezon city. from the cabanatuan terminal you can ask the trycycle drivers for the memorial and also if you want to go to banaue there are buses bound for banaue in the terminal.

Hi Christine, nice to hear from you and your willingness to see the Cabanatuan City. you see, cabanatuan city is approximately more than a hundred kilometers from Manila, there is no airport in cabanatuan, so you have to take a bus from either from bus stations in Pasay City (Baliwag Transit, Five-Star) or in Cubao, Quezon City... in cubao, bus fare is around P145-160 and it takes 3 hours to reach cabanatuan... upon reaching cabanatuan, you can drop by at the the Central Transport Terminal and take a bus/jeep bound for Palayan City or Baler, Aurora (Genesis Bus/Danilo Liner, Sierra Madre Transit); this bus will pass through in front of the American Memorial/Cemetery when the Highway Kilometer Reading says Km. 122... it is obvious once you reach the memorial, it proudly stands by your right (located in Pangatian, Cabanatuan City outskirts) and waves both the flags of the U.S. and the Philippines (correct me if i'm mistaken peepz)... anyways, feel free to contact me through this telehpne numbers (09196558974 - Ray Allan) so that i can accompany you to the site... By the way, Cabanatuan City is the gateway to Cagayan Valley so you can continue tripping towards the North! Good luck...
