Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park was a lot of fun, especially having the chance to throw real boomerangs and spears.

SkyRail was great too. I think your family would enjoy it. SkyRail is much better than the Kuranda Railway which proved not as scenic as advertised.

We also enjoyed our visit to Kuranda Village. There was so much to see. I guess it's pretty common in Australia but we were really impressed by all the different kinds of meat pies. They were cheap and pretty good.

We loved the Port Douglas area. We did the most incredible tour with Pete Baxendell. He does interpretive tours and rainforest walks. We had a wonderful time with him. www.daintree-specialised-tours.com We ate at 2 Fish Seafood Restaurant. I do not remember it being very expensive. It is located at 7/20 Wharf Street. You can check out www.smallguide.com.au for some great information.
Have a great trip!

Don't forget to go Barrier Reef, I suppose that's why you are going there?! We took the Quicksilver trip which is for a whole day to the reef where you have loads of activities. Explore other activities mentioned and if you are there on a Sunday definitely go to the markets which is there upto 3pm, we've met the aboriginal artist who handpainted the boomerang. Restaurants can be expensive here, but there is a very good, well stocked Coles supermarket on Macrossan street - they sell some fantastic range of cooked food as well as ready to cook fresh & frozen food. I wouldn't worry too much, just make sure your hotel/ accomodation has cooking facilities - you'll be fine!
