Re: train to bucharest Posted: Tue November 23, 2004 08:42 PM UTC
There is a sort of misunderstand in your post.
1. Buses going from Sarajevo to Belgrade do not start from the central bus station in Sarajevo, but they start from the Serbian Quarter in Sarajevo, quarter that is called Lunkavica. These buses reach the main bus station in Belgrade.
2. The train from Belgrade to Bucharest starts in the main station in Belgrade, the one in the Stari Grad (old town). There is a single train a day and it runs like this: Beograd 15.45 - Bucuresti Nord Gara A 06.33 R361 (timetable valid until December 14, 2004, when the actual one is due to be changed for the 2005 season) The train has 3 CFR second class seats wagons, a CFR mixed first / second class seats wagon, a CFR couchette wagon and a ŽS sleeping wagon. If travelling by the seats wagons, ask for a seat reservation (Sr. mesto rezervacija) in Belgrade, it is compulsory for the Romanian leg. But I would recommend travelling by a sleeping or couchette wagon, this way you can have some rest, as the journey is rather long. Once in Bucharest, do not take any of the offers proposed by taxi drivers there. Walk straight off the train and to the right of the CFR info office you will find two ATMs and a non-stop exchange office. Go between the Mc Donald's and teh railway tracks, soon finding the entrance to the metro station. Go down there, buy yourself a card from the "casa" and take metro direction Dristor 2, get off at Piatza Victoriei (the first stop after boarding), change the lines for metro direction IMGB, get off at the second stop (Piatza Universitatzii) and you are in the very centre. Alternatively, walk off the station and look for a taxi belonging to one of the following companies: Cobalcescu, CrisTaxi, Meridian, Mondial, Leone, Cocosatu', Grand, Rodell. A ride to the centre does not go over ROL 50000-60000, that is EUR 1.25-1.50. Best regards, Alex alex@futurevox.com
