cheap yet romantic place to stay?
Posted: Sat November 20, 2004 07:47 AM UTC
I'm going to Tulum with my girlfriend Dec 14-22, and looking for a cheap place to stay (under $60 a night), that is also romantic, clean and friendly. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I just returned from Tulum and stayed at Papaya Playa on the beach. We paid 20 USD for a basic cabaņa with shared bath, and it was an ok place. They also have other kinds of cabaņas, bigger with private bath etc but I don't know the price of those. Next to Papaya Playa is a placed called Azulik, which seemed like an incredible place. The cheapest cabaņa with shared bath was 30 USD, but they had rooms in all priceclasses. They also had swimmingpools, shaman, massage, yoga etc etc. I think I will check out that place next time I go there! Take a look at my travelpage, or these two links for more info about Tulum and accomodation:

we've been to Hotel Diamante K. Lovely cabaņas there with a small beach and a fine restaurant. I only can recommend them, as I liked it a lot there. Maybe one of the most romantic places I've ever been to.

I second exactly the places that the two users above have recommended. I have also heard good things about Cabanas Copal.

Pues ... I don't remember the exact prices, but dorm beds in Diamante come for about 11$, rooms without bath 22$. For sure it was one of the nicest places, I've ever been to. There are hammocks on the beach, where you can sit and watch the sea, and in nighttimes, they burn torches, as there is no electricity after 11.30 p.m.

Oh, thank you for your reply, I need to be there now! Copal Cabana's website is also incredible. doubles start at $58 per night. also $90 for a private driver to from cancun to the resort, I figure it's worth it, *barely*, for a 100 mile trip at night, and airfare is about $900 for two round trip from Reno. Gosh like everything, it is becoming expensive to travel! Gone are the true budget days....I guess this depends on desination...
