My husband and I are currently living in Seattle and are looking for a romantic place to go for our one year wedding anniversary. We would prefer to not spend like $200 a night and he can't go into Canada (he's Brazilian and needs a visa). Do any of you have a suggestion of a great place you've been too. Plus, since it's cold out now, it needs to have a television and/or a fireplace (that one is mine). Anything is helpful as I am clueless. Thanks!
A wonderful hotel that is now in "Off Season" Is the Freestone Inn. It is near Wintrup and some what close to Seattle 3 hours or less(they have a web site). We love the Lodge and go every year just to unwind. Most rooms have a fireplace, wet bar, and deck. They have a wonderful, restaurant also. The place is like a huge log cabin (delux) with two huge fireplaces in the restaurant and library. If you don't want to stay in the Lodge, they have fancy cabins available. They have a health club, fishing, bike rentals, horseback riding, nature hikes, cross country skiing and just about anything you would need to do. You can get to the Lodge over the North Cascade Highway or a longer route, over Bluet Pass.
Thats a nice place Mike. Their website http://www.freestoneinn.com/ also offers 4 other NW resorts. Have a look at http://rosario.rockresorts.com/ and http://www.semiahmoo.com/?corpRef=semiahmoo
I have been to 3 of their other places and even though they are nice, they don't "hold a candle" to the Freestone Inn. The log cabin lodge is really nice and of course the food terrific. We enjoy just having a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the small lake. the rooms are very nice by any standards and are very expensive during the summer and ski season. The trick is to stay at the freestone before the ski season and before the summer for the best rates. There is a bike trail that is paved that goes for miles. You can rent bikes, and fishing gear at the lodge. We haven't taken the horse ride yet but we plan to.
My wife and I have only gotten away once or twice since we've had kids but are always on the lookout for exactly what you're describing. The lodge in Winthrop sounds lovely but the Cascades highway will close after the first major snowfall and Winthrop can be 5+ hours away if you have to chain up over Blewett or Stevens. If you want in-town amenities there are a number of nice places in Leavenworth (I actually like their Christmas kitch) and some gorgeous inexpensive Victorian hotels in Port Townsend. We also stayed in a B&B in Bellingham once but B'Ham was only OK as a getaway destination. For a much(!!) more rustic experience my wife and I are scheming to get away this February to Scottish Lakes in the Alpine Lakes wilderness. They snow-cat you in to cabins tucked away at 5000 ft. in the Alpine Lakes. You are in charge of your own cooking but they do have a day lodge and shared sauna and hot tub but definitely no TV. Your Brazillian hubby might love or hate it but it's certainly something he would remember! Google around for further info on any of the above.
Did anyone mention the Salish lodge and spa located in Snoqualmie? its a beautiful amazing hotel that overlooks the falls at snoqualmie very romantic. Every room includes a fireplace and whirl pool, not sure what the price is but here is the website http://www.salishlodge.com/ It's a great place thats out of the city but still not to long of a drive around 25 min or so. Good luck!
We actually ended up finding All Seasons River Inn in Leavenworth. It was amazing. Jacuzzi tub (for 2) in each room, fireplace, king size bed. It was a wonderful B&B. Plus the breakfast was perfect.
