| Narita | Japan - Narita/Tokyo 2 day trip Posted: Fri November 12, 2004 06:00 PM UTC
I have a stop over at Narita, and I was wondering how to go around Tokyo, if I am staying at Narita overnight.
What is the cheapest and best way to see Tokyo for half a day? |

Train from Narita to Tokyo city takes at most 1 hour plus so you can probably visit one or two sites.
Ueno park and zoo is big enough to shave off 3-4 hours. Meiji Jingu and Harajuku are within stone's throw of each other - very interesting on weekends with teenagers hanging around in their anime and goth costumes. Meiji Jingu may have chrysanthemum exhibits at this time of the year. No entrance fees required except for Zoo. Around Meiji Jingu, look for "The Oriental Bazaar" which's a souvenir store (I hope it has not closed down - check out first)

You can go to the Narita Airport site to compare prices on transportation options to Tokyo. It's not cheap but if you really want to go, do it! :)

I recommend Asakusa but I am wondering when you are flying into Japan. I didn't stay out late but trains don't run overnight. It stops at midnight? and opens at 5am. Narita has some buddhist temples but hardly anyone there speaks english so you will have trouble even with taxi drivers which are too expensive. Many shops don't open until around 10am and close around 6-8pm so Asakusa does have temples. Ueno's temples close at 6pm and I found out the hard way and so do the museums. Roppongi has many sites and a night life since they have the most amount of english speaking tourists so you might be able to check them out. Wish you a lot of luck
