Bus Availability from Antalya to Marmaris
Posted: Thu November 11, 2004 07:29 PM UTC
Guys I hear you say buses are frequent and easy to find but can anyone help with my specific query.
My wife and I are flying into Antalya on 7th December arriving at 15.00pm and we need to get to Marmaris the same day if possible. Does anyone have information on specific coach times for this journey.?
The return journey will be on 21st December we need to be at the airport at about 1.30pm, again does anyone have specific coach times for this journey.
Lastly, we need to book the flights by Friday so if you are able to reply urgently it would be appreciated otherwise we may have to travel "on a wing and a prayer" and hope that the coaches tie up with our flights.
Thank you for any help you can give

Well, at least some general information. I have never been to Marmaris, but to Antalya several times.

Marmaris is about 370 miles from Antalya; about 7-8 hours on a bus. You'll find that Izmir is closer, only about 200 miles. So if your connecting in Istanbul, you're much better off flying into Izmir.

It will take you at least an hour to get off your plane and to the Antalya Outogar (bus station). You'll probably need a cab for the trip.

Buses in general are frequent, but the costal route to Marmaris is probably a less traveled route. I would still guess that you could get a bus in a few hours. Still, the puts you in Marmaris in the middle of the night.

Again, if you can travel to Izmir, I think you would be better off. Much shorter bus rides.

I went from Antalya to Marmaris with bus three years ago. The bus stops all the time so it takes quite a while to get there. I think it took about 10-12 hours, but I'm not quite sure. Also the bus didn't go all the way in to Marmaris, so we had to get out on the highway and take a dolmus the last 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately it was so early in the morning so there were no dolmuses running, but a waiter drove us and we had to pay plenty of money. Maybe things have changed the last years so that you can get there quicker. But at least it was very cheap.

I used Varan bus company from I'bul to Marmaris in august this year. They are one of the "better" companies.

www.varan.com.tr
phone to Varan otogar in:
- Antalya - (0242) 331 11 11 & ---12
- Marmaris - (0252) 412 09 79

Or e-mail them at
Call Centre - hlkisl@mail.varan.com.tr
Help Desk - help@mail.varan.com.tr

I forgot to write that......
Klick on the english yes, BUT I had a hard time figuring out the time schdules. Sometimes there is only a litle info in english, and the scheldules you get don't give you ALL their schedules! (happens to english pages to norwegian companies too!!!)

Therefor if you see a e-mail-link, send a mail. I did it befor I left to turkey, Marmaris - Bodrum was hard to find on the english pages...
Like Maria wrote, some don't drive door to door. The bigger companies usualy have a transfer bus waiting and bring you all the way you have payed for.... Some of them stops all the time.

Hey Doug Tomlin

You will NOT have any problems with your bus transfer travel between Antalya and Marmaris.
My friends had to take bus between Antalya - Bodrum this august. They did NOT have any problems (they only had 1 week vacation).
Bodrum and Marmaris have same "problem". Both are in Mugla district. Mugla city beeing the "capital", and both Bodrum and Marmaris are located on peninsulas, a bit away from the main road...
But again NO problem getting there from Antalya, and if you take the BETTER/BIGGER companies you will NOT end up with thousands of stops, and "thrown" off in the middle of no-where without a transferbus waiting there!!!!

The buses in Turkey are very very good and reliable!

from what you say it looks like I might have a problem so I may
.have to rethink my itinery.

You will notice that I have had a couple of suggestions regarding possible
"helpful" coach operators and I have e-mailed both this morning so I will have
to see what their replies are

Thanks again

Answering my own question. Anyone with the same problem that we have who do not want to hang around for buses for whatever reason might want to resolve the problem in the same way that we did by contacting the Icmeler on line website.
We booked a door to door private hire vehicle with them for a total cost of 160 pounds return for all 3 people in our party a bit more expensive than the bus but at least we get to Icmeler in comfort on the same day which was always the object of the excercise
