Schloss Neuschwanstein Should i reserve tickets now?
Posted: Wed November 10, 2004 10:16 PM UTC
Hi,
I am planning to visit Hohenschwangau and nueschwanstein castles on Dec 18 (Sat) this year. Do you think i should reserve tickets via internet now so to avoid line up over there? there is about euro 4 fee for each internet ticket.
Also please correct me if i'm wrong. I will be driving from Munich. So park my car at Fussen then take bus to Hohenschwangau (tour) and then walk about 15 mins uphill to nueschwanstein? I read also the best view of the neuschwanstein is somewhere along the bus route?? Is one day trip enough for both castles?
Thanks very much! ann

No. EUR 1,60 reservation fee per ticket.

You have to collect the reserved tickets 1 hour before the tour starts at the ticket booth.

> So park my car at Fussen then take bus to Hohenschwangau (tour) and then walk about 15 mins uphill to nueschwanstein?

No. You can park your car in Hohenschwangau. It's also rather a 30 mins uphill walk.

(see map at bottom of this page).

One of the best views is from Marienbrücke. This is close the place where the shuttle buses Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein stop. See again on the map.

Yes.

Thank you, you are always very helpful. Your tips and the map now give me a full clear picture. So you think reserve tickets in advance is recommended? I suppose those castles are busy throughout the year, including winter session.

I have been there in midsummer and the wait to buy tickets to enter the castles was not long, (not any, as I recall!) Wait to tour was. At Neuschwanstein, you line up in que for language you want to tour in. (English and German lines are longest!) Schwangau is not as popular, and lines are not so bad. You can walk up or take shuttle bus, I've done both. Like the man said, the best view of castle is at Marienbruecke.
I'd like to see them in winter especially with snow on them! I hope you make a travel page of this! Please let me know!
Gute Faehrt!

Hmmm...the winter pic would be very nice and it will be completely like a fairy Tale castle.

I think its better to reserve your ticket first because when I was there , there are quite a number of tourist , was there recently Sept 28th this year. I followed a local tour and the guide bought the ticket before hand I think . Even that we have to wait a little because you go in by batches. As the administrator of the castle provide a guided tour inside.

Drawback - you are not allowed to take pics inside the castle . I think just because they wanna sell their postcards and books ..... :-(

You stop at Fussen if you are traveeling from Munich by train. With a car you can go quite near but the hike is quite tiring ..hahaha maybe because I am not that fit ..you can take a horse coach up alternatively

Marinebrucke , the bridge that hangs over a deep gorge ( is there a limit to how many people who can stand on the bridge at a time ??? LoL ) , there you see Neuschwanstein but on the way there you will see a stop where you see Hohenshwangau castle .

Enjoy
