Ilha de Fernando de Noronha Diving Trip to the Island
Posted: Sun November 7, 2004 01:10 PM UTC
Hi

I also want to visit this Island for sure. Wanna go diving there... I am planning on going to Manaus first for 6 days and then come here. Does that make sense?

I will start in Sao Paolo and try to leave my excess luggage behind so I only travel with my backpack. Should be allright to bring that to the Island I guess.

Can anyone recommend a good and safe diving school? Any schools operated by Westeners?

Still must study my LP...

Chau,
Erik

Hi! =)

Sorry, I can't help you much...

All I know is that you will probably start your trip in São Paulo, it won't make any difference if you go to Manaus first... yes, it makes sense, it would make sense if you chose Fernando de Noronha too.

There are hotels in the jungle in Manaus... looks like a house on the tree... pretty cool. =)

Good luck! =)

You will be much safer when it is operated by brasileiros, they know at least what they are doing!

There are three very reputable dive operators on Noronha. I am planning my third trip there (for next month) and will be diving with Atlantis. Both of the other operators, Noronha Divers and Aguas Claras are also good. I choose Atlantis because they separate the advanced divers on one boat and those with fewer dives/lower cert levels on another at busy times. This means less crowded boats. In addition, there are lots of dive masters so that each group is small. Divers who are novices or a bit rusty get a lot of attention this way, and more experienced divers can visit more challenging dive sites. The largest group I've had with Atlantis is 5 or 6. All three operators have free pick up and drop off wherever you are staying on the island. Don't worry about the quality of Brazilian dive pros--they are great, and there are many who speak more than Portuguese. Here's the thing: Atlantis charges more than Noronha Divers or Aguas Claras in order to cover the costs of running boats at less than capacity. I prefer to pay and have a less crowded boat and dive with people of my experience level.

Aren't Brazilians westerners too? Since we're all in the Western Hemisphere? Please keep an open mind while you're in Brazil. I think you'll be very impressed with the country and its people.
