The Spaniard and I have discussed this and it seems he has his own opinions about the Costa del Sol area........That was the original plan....2 weeks in southern Spain.
Now I'm trying to see other options that could help with the planning.

Summer can be expensive.. thats the only trouble... but well if you are really looking for accomodation on the area.. write me, I just talked with the travel agency i normally deal.. for hotel deals for a friend and i ma very surprised....
Anotehr choice for accomodation is www.bancotel.com .. 50 euros the night ...
Another nice area for nightlife and beaches could be Puerto de Santa maria, Cadiz... or Also something deiferent in Almeria, CAbo de gata (but difernt style to Marbella nightlife lol I think you would love it....) lol and after two weeks you will show me better palces to go out than the ones i know and i normally go lol

As I mentioned..this is all preliminary planning. We're talking about the dates....and I do believe we're narrowing it down to August. (I know..PEAK season!)
We haven't checked airfares yet..but if we fly into Barcelona..is it best to take a train to Marbella or are there cheap inter-Spain airfares we can get??
Ideally...we would like to rent a villa.....with a pool.....and great view....(is that TOO much to ask?! ;-> )
Not sure how many of us are going yet......I know at least 5 ppl so far are confirmed.
And YES, Carmen.....IBIZA is still part of the plan!!!!! We are only planning to do a couple of nights there, however. Maybe one weekend on the island. That's probably MORE than what I can handle!
So I will check out the info you listed above...and send you email that possibly your travel agent friend can assist with.

A villa on august??? in Marbella??? ops ....
Well .... what kind of budget you have on mind?
From Barcelona to Marbella.. ther eis a train nearly 11 hours, or the flights 1 hour ... sometimes you can get really good deals rerurn tickets for 90 euros ... but not sure in august...
ok ... when ever you began to think about it... give me a shout!
it will be great to arrange another meeting here ....

Oh-oh....that doesn't sound too promising for us, Carmen! Is it really that expensive to stay in Marbella in August?
That's why I'm starting way ahead.......so I can have time to look for a good deal and plan a budget.
We struck gold with our villa in the Amalfi Coast last year and we're hoping that Spain will offer us the same.....and WELCOME us with open arms!!!!!
If we have to tweak dates and/or location to find a good deal on accomodations, then we can do that. I'll keep you posted.
If I do end up finding a great deal....then....well...... VT PARTY UP AT THE VILLA!! Woo-Hoo!!!!
(belly dancers excluded.....just Flamenco Dancers......oh, and Go-Go Boys! ;-> )

i would recommend to u to stay in marbella where i did, but the home owner was not really a sweet angle, and i dont think they r opened for business anymore! LOL

Hey... the 'crazy gang' have hit the Spain forum, but Jeff (Seabiscuit) is missing.
G_G will I be getting an invite to your villa party?
You cant go wrong with Marbella G_G, great nightlife, great beaches, great scenery in the surrounding area. Nearby you have the Puerto Banus, you can slum it with the rich and famous.
Plenty of accommadation in the area, if you are a large group a villa may be your best option, but they dont come cheap. You may find some moderately priced hotels just outside town. Probably your best (and cheapest) option is an apartment, or two if you are a larger group.
Keep us posted on your plans, I'll put the wine in the cooler....

Why Marbella? I don´t understand, no offense Carmela but don´t you think if someone has to fly to our country from the other side of the world it would be much better to see other places than Marbella?
I don´t know.. of course everybody has a point and contra gustos no hay disgustos (bit of Spanish here for you folks) but....
But of course... the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, the son of King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud, the legendary founder of modern Saudi Arabia, goes to Marbella every season... maybe this is why... I am sure there should be a possibility of joinning the king´s entourage for our Geisha friend...

Do you think renting a villa in Marbella when coming from SF with limited days in Spain is the best option if you want to see and appreciate our country even a little bit?

ok thats diferent... if you wnat to enjoy Spain in two weeks, I would tour a little ... of course.
And as I said before, maybe August is the worst month to come to most of the coast places in Spain, as they are too crowded.... and everything too expensive snif snfi (even for us that we live here lol) ....
Anyway .. a meeting is a meeting... wherever we make it!!! lol

I know we have had this discussion about your beautiful homeland.......don't know why Marbella intrigues me so much. (Well.....now knowing that it's a playground for KINGS it intrigues me even MORE......I'll pack my tiara! ) ;->
It sounds like you are outnumbered in this discussion that Marbella is THE place to be for first-timers in Spain.
I had a "round table" discussion the other night with the crew and we've narrowed down the timeframe to either mid-August or early September.....depending on everyone's schedule.
Ivan - we want sun......beaches......starry clear skies at night......spectacular views........rich architecture.........pool parties at the villa......sailing the coastal waters......and all-nighters at the hottest clubs.........WHERE do you recommend we find all of this in your Spain, my dear??
(p.s. I'll bring my friends if you bring YOURS......nice *new* pic btw......YUM!) ;->
Beach_Dog - Yes, of course you will be invited to the Party at the Villa.....the VT crew is always welcome!.......just as soon as we can sort out here where the heck in Spain I'll be going!!!!!

hahah Be carefulll Sangria affects to the Beach_dogs... in a strong way lol, if not see the pics of London meeting .... the sunday night... when a few of us in the hotel, we finished a few bottles of sangria that i took lol....
I know Marbella is sometimes controversial (apart of the ex mayor and others things) ... and people have diferent feelings about it ... normal...
and Ivan I promise no offense lol I do not like all the places in Spain too lol...
End august is much better than beging of august... less crowded... and still good nightlife... lol
