Vegas in late Nov- how cold is "cold?"
Posted: Thu October 28, 2004 11:47 PM UTC
I'll be in Vegas from Nov 20-22 and again from Nov 30 through December 4. I know it will be pretty cold that time of year, but I'm trying to get an estimate on what the daytime highs and nightime lows will be so I can figure out what to pack. So what should I expect temperature wise during the day and at night? Thanks

Hi, we are going Nov 11-14; in my guide, it says:

November: average high, 67, low 40's -- sweaters and jackets, coats for night

December: average high 58, low34 -- coats and jackets a must.

Hope this helps :o)

Hi, we went to Las Vegas just before christmas last year. During the day I wore mainly a t-shirt with lightweight jacket, sometimes it got warm enough to take my jacket off. At night to go outside I wore a padded jacket, but it was never what I would call really cold.

I just got back from Vegas, and It was in the high 60's, but there was snow on the mtn tops, chilly and windy in the evening... I broke down and bought a long sleeved wool sweater, who knew, an alaskan gal getting cold in Vegas, of course bring good walking shoes, and keep your eye out for restrooms, as these are far and few in between! Have a fabiloso trip!!

While the words do not support the class implied by the name Mercedes, and the tone is certainly unwelcome, the content is hard to argue with. There are so many web resources that can handle inquiries from the mundane (this is certainly one) to the sophisticated that certainly we all owe it to our fellow VTers to put forth a bit of an effort before we hit VT for assistance. After all, and as I might say to my small children, help yourself before you come to me for help (or, in the immortal words of a nonmortal Jerry Maguire: help us to help you).

This inquiry is not too far removed from the "Anyone know any affordable nice hotels in Paris?" question, that, like all such oft-stated requests, begs the response: "Have you searched VT yet?"

BTW, I will be in Las Vegas this weekend, and it will probably be in the upper 60s during the afternoon, and my question is: Will the hotel pool be heated? But I'll just call/email the hotel.

I was not going to respond that any of these negative posts, but based on the last post, I feel compelled to do so.

First of all, I apologize if I've wasted anyone's time by asking a question that can easily be answered. Since weather forecasts are not always accurate, I did not feel that was the best source of information. So I posed the question in this forum, hoping that someone who lives in Vegas could provide me with some insight. I've answered many questions about my hometown from people who have specifically asked me if the weather forecast is accurate. I never felt bothered to do so.

If you feel the question is unnecessary, don't respond to it. Numerous people already have and it really isn't necessary to add your 2 cents to something that has already been answered. Further, the response comparing me to a child and calling my question mundane is, in my opinion, unnecessary and inappropriate. I take offense to both comments.

The purpose of this site, as I understand it, is to share information with fellow travelers. It is generally a welcoming atmosphere. I would urge those of you who feel you are above others whose questions you find be without merit to keep that in mind. I would further suggest that those who feel that way simply refrain from responding rather than posting such remarks.

Thank you for your time.

To Goingsolo, take no notice of stupid idiots like those two. I don't know why they even bother to go on a site like this which is designed to give helpful, friendly advice to fellow travellers. Hope you have a great holiday.

Of course, you are absolutely correct. Any posting is fine. However, the scope and quality of responses will be entirely reflective of the question's depth and merit. So, my point is simply that getting the most engaging responses from people as interested in travel as you means stepping up to the appropriate bar. And that's what you want, right? Otherwise, all you get is banal responses like, well, this one of mine or someone whose only thought is to cheer you on. But that's not really very illuminating or even helpful.

One thought might be to communicate directly with VTers who live in Las Vegas and get a sense of what's going on as and when the temps aren't immediately suggestive of sunworship. It's supposed to be a hiking Mecca...that sort of thing. Search the site...it's a treasure trove of information.

Very thoughtful commentary and I thank you for it. I'm not sure how to add depth to a question regarding the weather. The question is what it is. I'm leaving for Utah 10 days before I head to Vegas so I don't have the luxury of checking the weather channel, swinging back home and repacking. As I said before, weather forecasts are often inaccurate. And, 50 degrres in the desert is not the same as 50 degrees in a tropical climate. For that reason, I wanted to get the opinion of those who live in the area or who have been there recently.

I didn't feel that sending a bunch of unsolicited emails to members was appropriate. Its my understanding that the purpose of the forums is to ask travel related questions specific to that area so that those who are so inclined can respond.

I don't think the previous poster's response was so much for the purpose of cheering me on but, rather, that she believed that the comments were rude and inappropriate. This is an open forum and opinions should always be welcome, but we should all try to communicate with each other politely and not with insults, such as calling a question mundane or comparing someone to a child. We can agree to disagree, but let's try to do it in the manner of civilized adults.

Again, I thank you for your time.

I can say, based on my personal experience, that directing correspondence to individual VTers at their VT address is absolutely fine and, in fact, welcome. This is basically because no one's VT address is their primary address. Instead, it is the address they use for precisely what you want, which is to reach out and communicate directly with them. For all of my trips, and I am a very frequent traveler, I contact VTers with prominent travel pages (by VT ranking) on my destination and I contact them to flesh out their comments on their pages or to inquire after new information or even to find out what's going on during the period I plan on being at the destination. VTers are not like posters on AOL or Yahoo or other general sites; they are travelers who are by nature inquisitive and highly motivated to be responsive to your call for assistance. So...check out the most popular Las Vegas pages and reach out to those native LAS VTers! This is part of the travel experience and part of doing your homework during the travel planning phase. It is, in many respects, as fun as the trip itself.

Mark, you may want to phone the hotel; I have found out that many pools are closed now, except the Bellagio, I believe.

I will be heading to Vegas tomorrow, so Patty, thanks for the info:o)

My "meow" remark meant that that comment was uncalled for. It could have been phrased in a better way, as to me the tone was rude. Basically, if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. I find that even though VT is a wealth of info, sometimes it is very difficult to sift through all the info, as I think you will agree with me, many "tips" aren't useful tips at all, but a picture, or no info. I have literally spent hours going through people's pages on Vegas.

Also, I agree with unsolicited e-mails. I get them all the time about Banff, and to admit, sometimes I don't answer them, as I don't feel like it, basically.

To be honest, I found "The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas" to have a wealth of information, all in one place, and saved me more hours of going through VT pages.

I also want to add, that not one tip I read mentioned anything about weather, more than general comments about the sun or heat, or you could see people wearing coats in the picture.
