Falkland Islands What British Food is available in the Falklands ?

What British food is available in the Falklands ? I presume that there must be since there are forces based there, but is this all within the base, or is it available generally on the island ? If it's not generally available do you think people would buy it if it was reasonably priced ?
- Sorry, this is really a fact finding mission for my business, but information like this is difficult to get.

Hi -

What sort of food did you have in mind? There's a list of places to eat in Stanley, the main town, here:

http://www.tourism.org.fk/stanley-restaurants.htm

Also this page has a bit of info on the food:

http://www.tourism.org.fk/necessary-info.htm

"Falklands food is generally of British character, but with occasional borrowings from South America. In the 'camp' or rural areas, expect three large meals a day, often punctuated by "smoko": tea or coffee served with home made cakes and biscuits. In Stanley and camp restaurants look for the use of fine local ingredients: organically grown lamb, mutton and beef, locally raised pork, locally caught fish and sea food and home grown vegetables."

If you're talking about food that's actually imported from Britain - it looks like there's quite a lot of stuff that gets sent across:

Cheers,

Jeremy

OK Thanks for the info. We were looking at importing food that you could normally purchase in a supermarket, but since Waitrose is already on the island, there is little point.
Thanks once again for the info.

There is indeed a lot of Waitrose stuff sold in The West Store in Stanley so the Falklands are not short of food of British origin. Interestingly there is also quite a bit of South African produce sold in Falklands supermarkets. The stuff available on the base (MPA) sold by the NAAFI tends to be a lot more British in origin, much of it from Tescos. The choice of produce from the NAAFI is not as good as that from the West Store for example.
