| Assisi | Calendimaggio festival in May? Posted: Mon October 25, 2004 04:42 AM UTC
We are trying to decide whether to go to Assisi for the Calendimaggio festival or the Corsa dei Ceri race in Gubbio. Any suggestions? What is the Calendimaggio like? Real touristy or authentic? What actually happens? Is there anything going on in the evening? Is the town wall to wall people?

It is definitely authentic. There are panels of judges viewing the entire thing and choosing the best. One year the Lower lost because one of their medievil dances wasn't to the correct music!
They cover all of the outdoor lights with branches and leaves and use only gas torches.
