San Diego - Mid November
Posted: Mon October 25, 2004 12:00 AM UTC
Have looked at the tips and my Dad and I are finalizing our trip to San Diego so I can see my boyfriend graduate from the MCRD (Marine boot camp).

We've booked a room at Humphrey's on Shelter Island. We are going to do the following while there and hopefully, we'll be covering most of the high spots, but in case we're missing something really great, please let me know, okay? :-)

The Zoo
La Jolla
Two Hour Boat Tour of the Bay
MCRD
Balboa Park
The Midway
The Star of India
Point Loma (for my Dad and his sunset photos)

Are we missing any MUST SEE things???

We land on a Wednesday night and leave early Sunday morning. How about good places to eat seafood?

Thank you. :-)

You have it pretty well covered, if you have some time for the nightlife, the Gaslamp District is cool, best bets are Croche's or House of Blues. Humphrey's is a great location out on Shelter island, good choice. Humphrey's has one of the best seafood resturants in the city. But if you want to have good fun seafood like the locals don't miss lunch at Point Loma Seafood. I did not see Mission Bay and Beach on your list, you have a lot to fit in...in just a few days, but both spots are great on a sunny day. Good luck to you and your boyfriend, graduation from MCRD is quite an acomplishment, but now comes the hard part, tell him we appreciate his service.

You are going to see a lot of San Diego, but I would include the historic Hotel del Coronado for the beauty of the hotel to the sand and sea around it. Humphrey's does have a seafood restaurant but I prefer going to Tom Ham's Lighthouse at 2150 Harbor Island Dr. for good seafood dining. Ask for an ocean view to complete the experience. Bon Appetit.

If you live in a city where you have a zoo nearby, then i think that San Diego Wild Animal Park is a more unique attraction, great photo ops there too.

I like Scripps Aquarium too.

If you have the time, take the trolley to Tijuana in Mexico, just for a couple of hours. Border crossing is really easy, and while it's not really Mexico, it's a different country, an interesting place with great atmosphere.
I was there 2 weeks ago and I loved it!

Also, spend some time at the Old Town! It's free and they have nice old houses and shops and restaurants. Great free tours!

Have fun, I loved San Diego!!

Gaslamp is a must, Little Italy is cool, Coronado is very touristic but beautiful, Old Town is a must (go eat at Casa De Bandinis!!!), and TJ is very cool if you have time. If not, don't worry about it.

Woooo Wooooo another Marine...
My son just finished MCRD a few months ago and then MCT and is not in Camp Leajune (sp) for his formal job training.
Semper Fi

You should go to old town while there after the graduation. I know my son only wanted food when he was done with basic... 4 Jack in the box cheese burgers later we went to Old Town. Good food in Old Town and a nice place to walk around to chat and it is very very close.

Enjoy the weekend and have fun.

You must go to Casa de Bandini in Old Town for Mexican food. See my website on San Diego.
