Leaving most of the Luggage at the Airport, done that?
Posted: Sun October 17, 2004 07:07 AM UTC
I will be traveling to many parts of Europe since I will be touring the entire continent. That is why I will need to store my luggage at the airport while I will only take the clothes I need for my stay in that particular city.

Has anyone else tried this?

Airports or train stations usually provide lugguage storage services. However, please note that due to the recent terrorists attacks in Europe and other countries, lugguage storage services may be suspended in some countries. You may wish to check with the respective countries' airport website for the latest policy and updates.

Storing luggage is very expensive. It'd be cheaper to stay at a hotel or so on enight and leave your luggage with them for some time until you're ready to pick it up. Most hotels and hostels around the globe do this for you. Only thing is that it is not 100% secure. But if it's just clothes.....

Al: I didn't see this question until I already replied to you in private email. Now that I know Rome is only one of your many stops, I can see the reason why you would want to keep the luggage at the airport.

If you don't mind paying for the rate, it's a good idea for your situation. However, perhaps you could try to pack lighter and use the laundromat at each city (or at every other city). This way you wouldn't run into a situation when you need something and find out it's in the left luggage.

The cost of going back to the airport, retrieving your luggage and start the new rate all over again could end up being quite expensive.

PS: Years ago, when one of our daughters turn 21, she travelled around Europe alone. She only carried a very large backpack and nothing else. She visited 5 countries, stayed in 10 cities, and made many other short stops along the way. She didn't have any problem washing her changes of clothing in the hotels so whatever she brought along was enough for the entire trip and no luggage storing anywhere.
