| Yangshuo | Best way to get to Yangshuo from the UK Posted: Sat October 16, 2004 05:45 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm looking to travel to somewhere in Asia in Novemeber. My options so far are either Thailand or Yangshou. Yangshuo is my favoured option but I think It may be out of my price range. What would be the cheapest method of getting to Yangshuo from the UK? I dont mind travelling by Train or Bus for a long duration just to keep the costs down. Can anyone help? |

If you get cheap flights to Hongkong, you can take the train or bus to Guilin from there and then Guilin-Yangshuo by bus.

As per above, fly to Hong Kong, cross over into Shenzhen and take the longhaul overnight VIP bus from Shenzhen to Guilin (bus departs Shenzhen long distance bus station around 8pm). The bus drops off passengers at Yangshuo around 6:30am and continues on to Guilin less than one hour away (ie. it hits Yangshuo first before Guilin).

Thanks very much for your quick reponses; that is a massive help; It looks like I will be able to go afterall. :)
I've got 3weeks; I was wondering whether or not there will be enough for me to do in Yangshou. I've notice from other members that they are travelling to other areas such as Xian. Could anyone recommend an Itinary for me to make the most out of my 3weeks?

No problem occupying 3 weeks in Guangxi Province or head on up north to Guizhou Province. From Yangshuo you can visit the Dragon's Back Terraced rice fields and Miao ethnic minorities up in Longi/Longsheng then head over to the centuries old Sanjiang Bridge and from there on to Guizhou. Or you can also head into Yunnan Province for Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, etc.

Although it is well worth a visit the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge in Sanjiang is not "centuries old". It was built in 1916.

Thanks for all your replies. After looking into the trip to China I kept finding more and more things that I wanted to do, and more and more places I wanted to see. I slowly relalised that I'm not going to be able to see and do those things within 3 week. If I do, I'd be really rushing the experince. I've descided to go with Thailand because I needed to book before the ticket prices shoot up. And its a lot easy for people new to traveling on there own.
I'm going to go China next year for around 3months. That way I will have chance to properly plan my trip; So all these usefull tips wont go in vain. Thanks again Kind regards, Kevin
