Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Sør-Trøndelag Tannas-Lake Vattnan
Posted: Mon October 11, 2004 09:25 AM UTC
My wife and I have an opportunity for timeshare for a week in July at Fjallvattnet near Tannas, Sweden. We really would prefer to look around Norway. I have a map that it appears its about 300 km to the coast. Is there any must see areas around this area or do we really have to get to the coast for the best scenery.
What are the roads like.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanx

Bookmark - but as I said in my previous post, you're not far from Röros.

Roads are good. The border area is deserted, we drove round lake Femund and had not seen anyone. There are some attractions relatively close: Roros; Dovrefjell National Park; Rondane National Park; but they are all several hours by car (I guess Roros is the closest and it will be like four hours one way, can not check now). Fjords are not much further, but you will not be able to do them in one day return, will need at least two days and stay overnight (probably Geiranger is the closest). But if you are not up do several hours of driving per day, just getting to the border areas and walking here and there (with a good map) will provide you with some scenery.

I would not recomend this if you want to see the much of Norway. The closest attraction is Røros (Roeros). Røros is definetly worth a look with it's mines, workers houses and church, but not much else (History of course).

If I were you I'd go with the tips you've got on your previous posting.
From Oslo the nutshell tour ending in Bergen (Touristy yes, but beautifull).
Hurtigruten up the coast. www.hurtigruten.no A trip will set you back some, but it's comfortable and the scenery on the way is unbeatable.

Alternatively you can rent a car in Bergen and take a few days driving up the coast. Be sure to take the Atlanterhavsveien to Kristiansund N. That is if you are not afraid of a bridge that seems to lead you into the ocean (it doesn't, it only seems like it does).

I see now that I should have posted this in the earliger posting, so I'll continue there.
