Bath Bristol to Bath n back!
Posted: Thu October 7, 2004 10:39 PM UTC
Ok, thought I'd try here before I tackled railway timetables etc! I'm in Bristol for Work, Wed to Thurs next week. I've booked into Bristol Backpackers Hostel for Thurs night. Fri I'd like to see a bit of Bristol, then head to Bath, before returning to Temple Mead Station, to catch my train back to Sheffield.
How often are trains TM Bristol-> Bath, How much is a return ticket, and how long is the journey??

Also, any recommendations for meal/pub etc for single female to try Thur night.
Fri I'm thinking of exploring Clifton and Zoo, any better ideas??
Thanks in advance, Sue XX

Hi,
www.thetrainline.com will be able to help with bris-bath info
- roughly 15 mins every 30 I seem to remember...

The waterfront along from the Watershed down (opposite backpackers) is pretty lively - nicer in the day than later on!
There's some good quieter 'proper' pubs on St. Michaels Hill (Highbury Vaults at the top is worth the climb!)

If you don't fancy the hills, round the corner from backpackers is King Street - there's several bars and restaurants but go to the Old Duke (jazz pub) and opposite the Llandoger Trow (allegedly inspiriation for the 'Admiral Benbow' in Treasure Island)

There's also a new place called Zero Degrees that I quite like - take the Christmas Steps up towards Perry Road. Its a microbrewery - bit trendy but does great food and beer.

I don't think much of the Zoo, better off going to the Suspension Bridge (have a pint in the Avon George Hotel) and up to the Downs(?!) if the weather's good, else the museum/art gallery is quite good and free...

Hello Sue:

While in Bath there are 2 places you might look into for a bite of lunch. For quaintness and history in the shadow of Bath Abbey Sally Lunn's is great. For good and inexpensive kebobs, try the Kabob House on King's Mead Square (a bit of a walk from the Abbey, but worth it!) Have fun.
