| Belize City | Ferry between BCity and Amber Caye Posted: Wed October 6, 2004 02:46 PM UTC
Looking for ways to save air fare costs between B City and A Caye. Can we get to A Caye cheaper by taxi? How about riding the ferry? Any idea how long of a walk, ferry ride it is?

I'm going to Belize in two weeks and have been researching a bit on net. According to Ambergris Caye website (www.goambergriscaye.com), it costs $15.00 US for the watertaxi from Belize City to Ambergris Caye, and $27.50 US for a roundtrip. The ride takes about 1,5 hours.
Greetings from Maria :)

Thanks for the answers.
I am also looking for shore diving off ACaye. Is it all sand or is there iron shore/ rock/coral beaches allowing snorkeling diving off the shore? Snorkeling on sand is like looking for songbirds in the desert.

The cab into town will also cost you $20, unless you travel lightly like I do and walk out to the highway and hop a bus into town from the airport.

Unfortunately, there's no shore diving on Ambergris.
Too sandy. You can get on a boat for anywhere from $35 to $55 USD for a local dive. $85 or more if you want to go to Hol Chan.

Easiest way is to take a plane with tropic air, really. Depending on where your comming from you're probably going to be very tired and it's a 15min flight, whereas the water taxi will cost you almost as much and i think takes an hour plus you have to get to it. The ferry ( if it's still running) will take longer but i do believe it's about half the price. Save yourself the hassle. You can reserve a flight at tropicair.com. Good luck and enjoy. Corry
