I am coming on 2 days stay in colombo with my family. How to go to kataragama from colombo and return on the same day. I need a good safer travel.I will be staying in the airport hotel mostly . Does the hotel we stay provide the tour to kataragama with food etc.

Please advise details as we have a kid of 3 year old .

Is travel from colombo to kataragama is safer. Do we have any flight to kataragama.

Does srilankan tourist board organize any tours.

Well you can ask the hotel to arrange vehicle for you to go to Kataragama. Choose a van than car because some times car cost too much than van. Before you hire one just compare the prices.

Well hopefully you can do the big journey in one day I think. But my advice would be to spend at least a day over there because you will spend more hours in traveling and going around temples. The small kids some times won’t capable of handling big road journeys and also going around in one single day and it’s really tiring.

If you can’t spend more days here, the best idea is to leave very very early in the morning from the hotel and you can get rid traffic jams and go to Kataragama & visit the temples By the time you leave Kataragama I think it would evening! So, you might make back to Hotel in the (very) late night.

Well there is no flight service to Kataragama. I hope someone will answer how many hours it will take from Airport Hotel to Kataragama on roads.

Kataragama is really safe! The people also really helpful and friendly. You need worry about it.

Taking a tour package might cost you more money but if you hire a vehicle and go you will definitely save plenty of money. Normally the driver will act as a guide too..

I reckon this reply is bit delayed for Kumar's use. I actually managed to do colombo to kataragama and be back the same day. It takes approx 6-6.5 hrs of driving. Advisable to leave around 4 half 4ish in the morning. You can get to kataragama by about 10-11. And if you leave there in a couple of hours, you can be back in colombo late evening the same day.
