| Auckland Region | Work in Auckland? Posted: Mon October 4, 2004 10:12 AM UTC
A good friend of mine is currently travelling trough New Zeeland. He would like to find a job in Auckland for a while (he has a work and holiday visa).
Does anyone has advice about finding a job in Auckland??? Or maybe in the nearby area?? I have been to NZ myself but I just travelled and therefore I don't know much about working in NZ as a backpacker. Any advice is welcome!! Thanking you in advance!!! Greetings from Holland! Maaike |

Maaike, I'm not sure what his best option is but I would have thought many of the bigger backpacker hostels would have been the place to ask about this sort of information. It may be easier to get work at an orchard or simlar in a place like Taurtnga rather than office job in Auckland. Summer is coming, may as well be outside enjoying it!

Hi there, ACB Backpackers cnr Queen St & Derby St in the city have NZ Job Search inside (3rd floor). They specialise in helping travellers find work. Depending on what your friend wants to do and how long they can work for there could be a variety of things!

I would highly recommend a place in Auckland called Travellers' Contact Point. It's at 167 Queen St (the main st in Auckland) and has really good notice boards where many agenices / farmers (for fruit picking) advertise. I found several jobs there really quickly. They get the daily paper too and have a copy you can go through to look for jobs.
In addition, they have a mail-holding service which will give you an address (you'll need this to apply for tax codes / bank accounts). It costs very little and gives you unlimited internet access for free. They also have a flat-finders notice boards, a travel agency and loads more. A real godsend for me when I was living in Auckland. Many hostels have job finding services but usually require you to pay to register. This really is unnecessary and they're just ripping you off really. Check out: http://www.travellersnz.com/
