How exactly does one get to Tajikistan... particularly by air from the US??? any thoughts?

most likely fly from europe some place...frankfurt would be the best hub i would guess

i should say best hub without having to get another visa...moscow would be easy to get there from, but then you would have to get a russian visa and it is quite expensive, especially if you do not plan on doing any traveling within that country

That question is not so odd to me. I went to Dushanbe, Tajikistan this past July. I was there for 1 1/2 months. I went from DFW to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Dushanbe. Tajik Air is the company you need to use to go to Dushanbe. http://www.traveltajikistan.com/tajik/flights/
this site should be a big help. You are going to need to get a visa and that part is a little tricky. My fiance is from Tajikistan so he got it for me. If you are lost on that part feel free to ask me anything. I can ask him and give you sources or something. By the way their hotels are terrible so you might want to talk to a travel agent to get a host family to stay with.
