Runaway Bay How's Jamaica after the hurricane?
Posted: Thu September 30, 2004 12:39 PM UTC
My husband and i are going to Jamaica in January. We are staying at the Royal Decameron. I was wonder if anyone knows how they are doing with fixing the damage from the Hurricane, the beaches and the roads, etc. Does anyone what the damage was to the place we are staying at? What about surrounding sights.... Any info would be a great help... thanks, Heather

Jamaica seems to have gotten a lot better after the hurricane. My wife and I visited Jamaica about a week and a half after Hurricane Ivan.

The roads were horrible but has nothing to do with the hurricane. The beaches are in perfect condition.

I dont know what the damage was like at the Royal Decameron but if you give them a call they will probably answer you.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Hi,

I just drove up through Ochie, Runaway Bay, and Discovery Bay and the roads are ok (just some construction that's been going on for a while). The North Coast was affected the least by the storm, and the electricity in resort areas seems to be ok too. I don't know your hotel--but should be fine. Some of the folks in the the country have had a much harder time--a lot of agriculture has been seriously affected. But, I'd say keeping your booking will help the economy more, especially if you get the chance to visit locally owned businesses --it's worth taking a trip along the North Coast--going east to Port Maria and Port Antonio--nice stretches of coastline.

Susan.

We were at the Royal Decameron, runaway bay at Christmas 2004 the hotel is under new management and there is no damage and the resort is clean and well run it appears to be running a full capacity at all times, go and have a great time, do not take notice of bad reports we had a great time and the food was never ending - and make sure you go to the waterfall at dunns falls, you will never forget it .
