will be visiting Penang on 13 Nov to 15 Nov. are there any buses that we can take from the airport to either Ferringhi Beach Hotel or George Town? can we book a transport for 6 pax? how much does it cost and who can we book from? any celebration held on 14 Nov Penang Day? any suggested itinerary for 3 Day 2 Nite? Is the train up to Penang Hill working?

G'day. My suggestion to you would be to take a taxi from the airport to Georgetown (bus terminal at the Komtar - cost 28 Ringgit) and then a bus to Batu Ferringhi. Be warned the buses are definitely not up to the standard you are used to in Singapore! May be worth checking with the hotel, as some have transfer buses from the airport. The train up Bukit Bendera is working and is a pleasant trip. Try and pick a time soon after rain, as the rain clears the pollution away and you then get some very good views. Suggested itinery? Depends on what you like - but I would definiely put Kek Lok Si (huge Taoist temple) on your list, plus a trip to the night stalls at Batu Ferringhi (sharpen your bartering skills for this one) If you want any other suggestions, send me an e-mail and I'll tell you what little I know!! Hope this helps a bit.

And if you like to see some old mansion, the Blue house, CheongFatze mansion is my all time favourite.
There is a tour to the private property and it gives you a very good highlight on craftmanship (which you can also notice similarity to some temples and kongsi in Penang - so this is a good starter to me).
Or maybe you wanna walk around and see one kongsi (clan homes), and then just walk around to see old mosques, temples, SunYatsen old quarter in Penang. There are lots you can do on FOOT.

I am not sure in Penang how the airport limo works. But in KLIA we have such a thing as a MPV limo, and it ferries 6 pax. Perhaps you should try to look at websites on Penang airport.
check out if the hotel provides a sit in coach transfer

The furnicular ride to Penang Hill...of all day - pls avoid weekends or even the Penang Day itself...you be fighting with kids on the queue. But I did actually enjoy my walk there, it was pleasant becos we started really early and the air was crisp. You either go early or go late to see sunrise or sunset. There was a small stall that was selling fried cempedak which I devour while they were piping hot !!! The only set back is there is just too much new construction of temples and toursity gimmick stuff which makes Penang Hill another commercial attraction. I did particularly try to spot out for colonial houses there and nutmeg plantations where locals still live.

Not too faar from Penang Hill - but i am not sure if it is walk-able - is the Kek Lok Si temple...it is huge with a huge huge Goddess of Mercy ... you cannot miss the huge statue. And you can wonder around.

Iam not sure whether they still have any bus service from the airport to Gtown? If there is one, you will hv to take a bus to Gtown and then change to another bus to Ferringhi Beach. But with 6 ppl, i would suggest you to hire a car or MPV to move around.

How much? i cant really remember but you could check with Heinz Car Rental or etc etc when you come out from the airport.

any celebration? goodness. It is actually Hari Raya Celebration. Gotta warn you that there will be loads of ppl/visitors in Penang. Traffic will certainly be bad and hotel will be fully booked. Please do so if you hvnt done it.

suggested itinerary? actually there are plenty of things to do in Penang, As i always suggested, visit the Penang Tourist Ass kiosk (you can find one in Komtar at 3rd Floor) and you can get any info from there.

penang hill? oh ya .. it is working. But you have to be super early to join in the queue. I dont know whether it is still as bad as before but i remember bringing my aussie friends there 2 years ago at 9am. Man ... we waited for 2 hours before squeezing into the tram with school kids (do agree with Audry not to go there on the holidays or school holidays).

regards

yikes -
Nov 11 is Deepavali and Nov 13 onwards is Hari Raya...so many many people are taking time off. I believe people will start taking time from Nov 11 and not back to work till Nov 17th. So it is really the worse time to travel. I think coming to KLumpur is the best idea!!! becos everyone who works in KL will get away to their hometown. I know for sure I am staying back. There will be massive traffic problem along major roads, car accidents are more rampant. You be sure bad food, bad service becos people are overworked and many places could be understaffed as well.

Penang Hill will be very crowded. It takes hours to queue to get up- you will hate to share the entire cable sardine packed with all kinds of people who have sweated like mad in the queue. Unless you take the 7-ish am ride up to avoid everyone!!! But i cannot imagine taking a holiday in such condition. I learnt my lesson real hard when I went to China during this Chinese New Year...it was just pack pack and you see so little and you waste a lot of time waiting.
