And if you like to see some old mansion, the Blue house, CheongFatze mansion is my all time favourite. There is a tour to the private property and it gives you a very good highlight on craftmanship (which you can also notice similarity to some temples and kongsi in Penang - so this is a good starter to me). Or maybe you wanna walk around and see one kongsi (clan homes), and then just walk around to see old mosques, temples, SunYatsen old quarter in Penang. There are lots you can do on FOOT.
I am not sure in Penang how the airport limo works. But in KLIA we have such a thing as a MPV limo, and it ferries 6 pax. Perhaps you should try to look at websites on Penang airport. check out if the hotel provides a sit in coach transfer
The furnicular ride to Penang Hill...of all day - pls avoid weekends or even the Penang Day itself...you be fighting with kids on the queue. But I did actually enjoy my walk there, it was pleasant becos we started really early and the air was crisp. You either go early or go late to see sunrise or sunset. There was a small stall that was selling fried cempedak which I devour while they were piping hot !!! The only set back is there is just too much new construction of temples and toursity gimmick stuff which makes Penang Hill another commercial attraction. I did particularly try to spot out for colonial houses there and nutmeg plantations where locals still live.
Not too faar from Penang Hill - but i am not sure if it is walk-able - is the Kek Lok Si temple...it is huge with a huge huge Goddess of Mercy ... you cannot miss the huge statue. And you can wonder around.
