Grand Rapids Romantic weekend spot near Grand Rapids wanted
Posted: Wed September 29, 2004 02:52 AM UTC
I am seeking as a wedding gift for my nephew a gift certificate for a romantic B & B or quaint hotel weekend spot no more than 2-3 hours from Grand Rapids where he lives. The wedding gift my husband I remember most fondly is a B & B weekend gift certificate for an old plantation home down in Mississippi but I'm not familiar with my nephew's turf near Grand Rapids. We're hoping for something elegant and possibly historic but definitely relaxing. Any ideas for places we might try would be most appreciated.

There are LOTS of lovely places along the Lake Michigan shoreline - the only problem is trying to keep your list of possibilities reasonably short.

GRAND HAVEN is nice, but it's less than an hour from GR, and most people would want to be a little further away from home on a "getaway."

THE OLD MISSION PENINSULA is a lovely place close to Traverse City, with many orchards and wineries and some very fine restaurants.

PETOSKEY and CHARLEVOIX are sweet and interesting towns with plenty of character.

You have so many options! In addition to what's been mentioned, you can investiate the area south of Grand Rapids.

Some towns to search include Saugatuck, Fennville, Holland, and South Haven. There are all within an 1-2 hours of Grand Rapids (just go to www.google.com and put in the town name and bed and breakfast and you'll have plenty of options).

One notable bed and breakfast is the Belvedere Inn in Saugatuck. www.belvedereinn.com

Hope this helps!
