Birthday trip accommodation in Amsterdam
Posted: Thu January 16, 2003 01:18 PM UTC
Hi! I haven't been to Amsterdam since I was at Uni so I decided to treat myself for my 30th birthday. I want a bit of luxury for a change and to stay in a small family run place must be in a typcial dutch building on a canal side with bed and breakfast. should be really quaint and central (so I can get to train station), in a safe area and not be too expensive. Any ideas? Hope to hear from you!

Can`t believe you are a Republican!.!!opps wrong post :)

Well lets see, If you asked for a a cheap hotel in crime infested area with no view whatsoever, I would have been more than happy to supply you with an endles list!! :)

However, looking for a view of Canals and classy I'd say the Sheraton hotel.

Amsterdam is wonderful ... you will love it. You will get lots of suggestions here so I will keep mine brief.

1. Look for something in either the Jordaan or the Museum Quarter/ Vondelpark ... the Jordaan is luscious and quiet and near enough to everything. The Vondelpark is well situated.

2. I only know one little place in the Vondelpark. It is a fairly standard Hotel, clean, with breakfast ... but it is on a quiet street - not a canal. The rooms on the top floor are charming. If you get in a jam ...here are the details:

Hotel Prinsen
Vondelstraat 36-38
1054 GE AMSTERDAM
Tel. 0031(0)20-6162323

Take a look at Time-Out Amsterdam ... it's reliable.

Hotel Eureka:

They also have houseboats!

It's on a canal, has a prizewinning breakfast and near Waterlooplein (fleamarket), just across Rembrandtplein (nightlife IMHO preferable to Leidseplein) and walkable to Dam Square, Central Station, etc.
But don't worry, the tram system is excellent so you'll be fine anywhere in or near the center.
