Hi there,
It is quite safe to travel to Maputo and it being a former Portuguese colony, your Portuguese will assist you a lot as all the locals speak the language. I have visited Maputo on two occasions, as recently as last year and am thinking of going again this year for newyear party. It is a great city with fantastic people. The food is fantastic and everything is very cheap except for the liquor.
Have a great time, just remember your mosquito repellent and do not forget to take your malaria tablets.

Hi David,
I'm Jude and I live in Matola which is just south of Maputo.
I think Maputo is wonderful, slightly primative and very rustic but the people here are fantastic and if you have a chance to go North to Inhambane or Pemba you could really be in for a treat.
The fact that you speak portugese will go a long way, and try very hard not to look like a tourist and you should be fine.
There is a lot of petty crime here but as long as you are aware all the time you should be fine. Stay on main roads dont go down alley ways etc etc.
The seafood is fab .
Hope you have a ball Merry Chrissy
Jude

Olhe David! Melhor, falas a nossa língua.
