Hi my husband and I have just booked a holiday to Maderia for our 30th wedding anniversay in December. Any idea what weather we can expect, will it be possible to swim in outdoor pool. Also any tips on places to see, eat etc, especially for our anniversary dinner. Also any info on walking Levadas would be appreciated, are these graded organised walks or do you 'go alone'. Many thanks

Hi!
The weather during "winter" in Madeira is more like a warm spring. No jackets needed, however, some days can get a little bit not so warm, especially at night. About outdoor pool... well some days it's possible... some not. Last year I was swimming at sea there in February!! There's a lot of things to see in Madeira. A tour around the Island is a good option and preferably take at least 2 days to do it... so you can enjoy it without any rush. Eating: you have to try "espetada" and that you can find in several restaurants. Other things, I like "Fora d'Oras" very much (near Lido). A nice restaurant to your anniversary dinner would be an italian that I don't remember the name... just remember it's after you pass Ritz Hotel... has a great view over the ocean and the food is great. About the levadas.. there are a lot of them but the best thing to do is to ask at any tourism office about guides and prices. I hope this can help at least a bit :) Have fun Antonio

Just remembered the name of the Italian restaurant: Villa Cipriano
Has a really great view, the food and the service are excellent... If you go there call the day before or early the same day to book a table.
