Cost of Meals in Rome

I am going to Rome in November and I would like to have a 'guestimate' on how much cash I will bring.

My question is how much lunch and dinner usually cost? I don't want to go to expensive restaurant, I just want to have pizza and try the paninis.

No need to bring cash as ATMs and Credit Cards are much better.

If you eat on the cheap and do the panini / pizza than anywhere from 5 to 15 Euros, depending on the place and location.

My favorite pizza is at a place calle Pannetoni (spelling) in Viale Trastever in Trqatevers.

Meals in Rome can be anything from dirt cheap to ridiculously expensive. Make sure you check the menus first that are posted outside. As a rule of thumb, refrain from buying anything located right around one of the main attractions.

Also (it's been said again and again, but bears repeating as I *still* see it ignored all over): Don't forget that the price in the cafes depends on where you take it. Cheapest standing up at the bar, medium sitting down inside, most expensive sitting outside. Have a wild educated guess why you see mainly Italians drinking their coffees standing up, and the tourists sitting outside. ;-)

Meals were not cheap but were reasonable - - lots of little streets around the Spanish Steps or Trevi Fountain with meals around €14 or so - mainly pasta and pizza.
It was touristy but the food was good - not cordon bleu but OK.
Drinks - well when we went in a very hot August it was a jolly good job that the water fountains dotted around the city were working otherwise I would have dehydrated - especially at Rome prices.
E.g Bar Washington, Via Viminale - next to our hotel - 1ltr beer and 1 gin and tonic came to €22 (£16.50) !!!!! Absolute rip-off.
Most places were half that - so only £8 for two drinks...hmmm.
Pot of tea for two near Piazza Popolo - €9 - £6 for a pot of hot water, a carton of "milk" and two teabags.
I am sure people will tell you of cheaper places - fine if you can be bothered to track them down but if, like us, you like to amble around and take a drink or meal as you fancy it, then be prepared to be charged a lot.

Oh - and dont eat if you are in a hurry - the waiters were the slowest and laziest I have ever come across!

I think that eating in Rome is cheaper than in other part of Italy.

Pizza and something to drink should cost around 10 euros.

As in other places there are also fast foods such as Mc Donald's and others.

I could suggest a very good pizzeria-ristorante. It's name is "Tosca".. See their address and web-site on my Rome pages if you like.

I agree, ROme is one of the most economical 'touristy' cities to eat in. Eating around the Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna - that's like getting take-out at Harrods! However, in the touristy zones there is the battle for the tourist Euro, so there are good deals there, the food just might not be great. Go around Via dei Serpenti - great places to eat and lots of ethnic food, here you can get a decent meal in a real restaurant sans the unwashed masses for 10 to 15 Euros. In addition there are also lots fo inexpensive and not bad places around the station and Piazza Vittorio.

In addition, for sitting down with coffe, campo dei fiori and around are a good chice.

Cheapest Place to sit in Rome with a View!!

The Mc Donalds in fron of the Pantheon! Buy something to drink and get a great view of the piazza, you can bring your own food if you are discreet enough! I used to take my laptop there to work when I was in Rome, never packed, god knows why?? Also, pretty good toilet downstairs!
