Does anyone have any information on the Andaman Islands? Vt seems to be strangely lacking in any comments on these islands.

I stumbled over them while browsing a map of the west coast of Thailand and am especially interested in the possiblity of sailing around them.

Hi Rick,

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are not popular tourist spot although they are beautiful. For one reason, the territory is stricktly controlled by Indian gov. As far as sailing around these islands, I heard of a family who landed on one of the islands without preivous permission and ended up staying there for a few days under the supervision of Indian officer. Research well before you go. And let me know your experience once you return : )

Andaman and Nicobar Islands belong to India. You can visit Port Blair in Andamans visa Chennai(Madras) or Kolkatta by air or by ship. While some islands are available for sight seeing some are not. You can get the information from authorities in Chennai. I don't think sailing is allowed to visit some of the islands due to security.

In Port Blair you have very good hotels and you will really enjoy.

I've read that the easiest way to see the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is from Phuket, Thailand.

Has anyone had any experience getting there from the east and not from India?

while you are researching all this-- look up lakshadweep islands on the west coast as well.
i havent been there, but i know they are amazing!

You can get all the info you want at http://andaman.nic.in/ - there are several islands which are offlimits to tourists.

But the islands which are open are equally exotic and probably more beautiful than most.

The Britishers used to keep Prisoners here at Andaman-Nicobar islands. There are several diving locations - one can check out corals etc.

You can also check out mapsofindia.com for a map.

Finally if islands is what you want then Lakshwadeep coral islands on the west coast are NOT TO BE MISSED.

well for anyinformation u can contact me.i have been there twice there are the most heavenly place on eatrh.well u need to go to clacutta and catch a flight or ship,ship takes 4 days.u need a permit and u can stay there only for 30 days,which trust me is less. there are 300 odd islands and all are paradises on earth.
