Ilha de Fernando de Noronha Baggage to Fernando de Noronha
Posted: Sun September 19, 2004 01:57 PM UTC
How much baggage do they allow you to take to fernando. If I am over, will they simply charge me, or is there a chance I will have to leave things behind. I am on a 3 week trip including some business so have more than 15 Kilos. Is there an upper limit of what you can pay for?

the luggage limit is probably stamped on your tkts. It is probably 20 kilos, as most internal flights are this way.
They will charge you for the excess but not leave your luggage behind.

Don't worry too much. The planes to FN are full-sized jets with overhead compartments and all.

Last time I went to FN, I took all of my dive gear, which weighs in at about 25 kg and had no problem. I carried a 'wheelie' on board with me for everything else. But I had to carry the thing up and down the stairs in and out of the plane, so on the way back, I decided to check both of them. That took me enough over weight that they couldn't ignore it, and I had to pay. It wasn't a huge amount of money, though. If memory serves, it was about US $30.

If I were you, I'd leave one bag with whatever you don't need at the luggage storage/left luggage at the international airport. When I was last in Brazil (July), I left my dive gear at the hotel in Sao Paulo while I was on a speaking tour around the country, and then exchanged it for the suitcase with all my work clothes before going to FN. It worked very well, except for my deciding to check my carry-on.
