| Judetul Covasna | Covasna Posted: Fri September 17, 2004 01:11 PM UTC
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me - I want to travel from Budapest Airport to Covasna, Romania, I wanted to know how I do that and how much it costs. I am visiting the village of Zagon and also need transport from Covasna to Zagon Village. If anyone can help me with the cost and contacts I would be most appreciative.

From the airport to the railway station by taxi or bus/metro/tram.
www.bkv.hu Train schedules at bahn.hafas.de Covasna can be reached in 17hrs with change of trains in Brasov only. Don't bother to much about the cost. Trains in Hungary and Romania are cheap.

There are a few places organizing transfers from Budapest Airport to Cluj (such as www.retro.ro), the rate is about EUR 25-30 or so. From Cluj you can go to Covasna by train with two changes, in Brasov and Sf. Gheorghe:
Cluj - Brasov - Train no. 10.17-15.24 A1747 14.29-19.10 IC532 22.25-03.25 A1742 23.26-04.33 R634 00.31-06.46 R407 Brasov 11.47 - Sf. Gheorghe 12.28 P4011 Sf. Gheorghe 13.07 - Covasna 14.08 P4571 Brasov 14.48 - Covasna 16.20 P4565 (straight) Brasov 18.04 - Sf. Gheorghe 18.32 R406 Sf. Gheorghe 19.30 - Covasna 20.34 P4573 Or, coming straight from Budapest: Budapest Nyugati 16.05 - Sf. Gheorghe 06.14 R407 Sf. Gheorghe 09.00 - Covasna 10.02 P4563 Mind you to ask for a seat reservation from Budapest, it is compulsory for all fast trains in Romania. From Covasna to Zagon there are only 10 km., so just take a taxi, but make sure he puts teh meter on. It should be not more than ROL 100.000 - 150.000 for the ride (exchange rate: EUR 1 - ROL 41.000). Btw, OZ citizens still need a visa for Romania, while for HU you no longer need one, so make sure to apply for it beforehand, as visas are no longer available upon border checks. As for Englis, most young people at least will speak it or understand it. With clerks or so it is better to write down what train you want a ticket, for instance, or use body language.
