Indeed. However, if there is still a postbus (used to be #280), you could look on postauto.ch/en/pag-startseit... - theoretically you can fill in the timetable search box in top right-hand corner, selecting the bus icon below (2nd of the 3). But when you do, it goes straight to the Swiss Railways website, fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.ex... This should give bus timetables if you click on "advanced search" below the timetable search boxes and deselect all means of transport but buses, before returning to click "search connection". However, I couldn't get a result so postbus may no longer exist on that route and you may have to go by train (or it may just be that it doesn't run on the weekday I was trying). You could always google for Brig/Zermatt tourist office.

Was your question prompted by "ouch the train is expensive, let's inquire about a bus?" In Switzerland the different modes of transport don't compete with each other, they complement each other. This means that when a convenient rail connection exists there is in most cases no bus running parallel to it. It also means that where a bus connection parallel to a rail connection does exist ( to supplement the rail service) the price fo the bus an the train will be the same. There are ways to save money on public transportation, but limiting yourself to a slower mode of transport is not one of them. In Switzerland the price for getting from A to B depends on how far they are from each other, and whatever reduction or concession cards you have. The price does not depend on the kind and speed of vehicle that will get you from A to B. The principle is that you buy a fare, and then take whatever gets you there quickest. So when getting around in Switzerland, just use www.sbb.ch to pull up the schedule and prices.

There are direct trains from Brig to Zermatt every hour. And more with change at Visp. fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.ex... Never heard about buses on this line. As Zermatt is a car free village cars can only be driven to Täsch and then everybody has to continue by shuttle train.

I never heard of a bus service between Brig/Visp to Zermatt. However, if there were a bus/postbus service along the railways, it would be at the same fare anyway.
