We are travelling to Zanzibar for 7 days and spending our first two nights in Stone Town. My husband thinks we should rather spend our last two days in Stone Town. any recommendations/advise? Should we change our travel plans?
thanks
We are torn between doing an all inclusive package deal for 7 days from South Africa or making our own itinerary and winging it while we are there. We did the later in Greece and it was AMAZING - just talking to the locals and getting advise along the way on where to stay etc...
We are not really into the resort type accommodation as we are more in search for the authentic experience of the culture and nature that Zanzibar has to offer. We would like to snorkel and explore - we are not the type to hang around the hotel..
What would be more economical?
Thanks in advance for any feedback
Hello, i am planning a trip to Zanzibar at the end of April and first week in may. I do believe it's the heavy rain season. Would you reccommend going during this period?
I would like to get an idea of what one pays for basics like bread and milk etc. Also what a beer costs in a restuarant or bar , what a coke costs
Is it still worth visiting Zanzibar in April as it is the rainy season? Essentially we want to find a nice quiet beach and chill. Any recommendations?
Hi all, We've heard that Kendwa has the best beach on the island. We are looking for a private bungalow on the beach. Hoping to find something that has a wee bit of privacy, if possible (though, I hear Kendwa is a pretty busy place). We would like to stay in Kendwa or somewhere that is walking distance (up to 20 minute walk). Does anyone have any suggestions of a place that is nice, but not too expensive. Thank you!!!! :)
Hi I am planning a 2 week holiday in Zanzibar. I read that it is recommended to take malaria tablets but a friend of mine who's been there told me that it is not necessary. What's your experience? Thanks Kind regards Francesca
Hi. My partner and I are planning to go on holiday in Zanzibar. I want to find out Where is the best place to go for a young couple?and Do you travel or do you stay at the same place? Hi I am considering a short break to Zanzibar early this coming January - I've been there before, but not at that time of year, and not with our family (we will have our two kids, aged 8 and 5, plus two active grandparents in tow). Can anyone give me an indication of what the weather is likely to be like and any recommendations on affordable, family-friendly accommodation? Thanks and regards Cathy
Thinking about going to Zanzibar in April with a few friends. Anyone know what the weather is like? Also, coming from the States with a few blondes. Should Americans feel safe here? The images look beautiful, but can anyone tell me if this is well worth the 33hour trip? We're well traveled, but just need a little more encouragement to take the plunge on this. I don't know anyone who has ever been here. Any hints/feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, do the plane flights into Zanzibar seem safe?
Me and my pals are travelling to Zanzibar in December and we are from Zimbabwe. We would like to know if we need visas to enter into Zanzibar and how is the accomodation, watersports and beaches in the North East Coast? Thank You
We plan to stay in Stone Town but wonder if we should plan a trip around the Island. We have normal access to good beaches, so that is not our emphasis. Also we may need to have a single night in Dar as Salam on Dec. 14 as we arrive at 4:30, need to get visa and through customs, and not sure if we can get a flight out that night. Any ideas for a safe, decent hotel in the50-$100 range?
Am getting married in June next year and planning our honeymoon. We want to go to Zanzibar around the 13th June but am concerned that firstly it may still be rainy and if not it may not be that warm and cloudy all the time. Any advice would be appreciated!
Would it be unreasonable NOT to book in advance for Zanzibar? I will be there the last week of September and I would like to do a bit of Stone Town, Beaches and maybe Pemba. We are looking for cheap but clean guesthouses so we are very flexible on the stay.
Hi all, We planning to get married on Zanzibar in July 2010. We're going to spend a week at Unguja Lodge and have our wedding there. Seems like a lovely place and we're planning a sunset wedding, so this seemed to be the best side of the island. (I've heard the East doesn't get great sunsets?). For the second week we'd like to move somewhere else but deciding where is causing the problems. We'd still like to keep it 'beach villa' orientated and would like somewhere that's at least as good quality as Unguja in terms of accomodation and service (if not a little better as it's like a mini-honeymoon while we're away). We're looking for something small and intimate so we can just lay around on a nice beach or terrace and dine privately from time to time. We don't want lots to do or any kind of nightlife really, it's not what this trip is about. At the moment we're looking and Fundu Lagoon, on Pemba, although this is a little more than we wanted to spend (just to give you an idea of our budget), it does seem special. We're also thinking maybe somewhere on the east coast, after being on the west. We going round in circles trying to pick somewhere we'd love to hear any suggestions anyone has.
Hello! We are two students who will end our field study trip to Tanzania with a holiday on Zanzibar. We think that we will stay in stonetown for a couple of days and then go to the northen parts of the island. So now we are woundering if anyone has any suggestions for cheap acommodation in these areas? We like to live simple and to not need any luxory. Maby someone know of anyone who could rent us a room in their home? Or know of some cheap hostels? WE would really appreciate any suggestions frome you! Have a great day. Hope to hear from anyone of you soon.
I can travel to zanibar for three weeks, my window is mid-October through mid-December. Can anyone tell me from experience if I'm better off arriving in mid October and staying through the first half of November, or the second half of November through the first half of December? Thanks for any advice!
Hi All, Just wondering about your opinions on solo travel on Zanzibar. I'm considering going there for two weeks in November and Mafia Island for a third week. I've read posts in which people say they felt safe in groups, but haven't heard much about solo travelers. My budget is mid-range, I can afford a little more if safety is an issue. Any responses are appreciated!
Hi, I am a 21 year old single female planning to go to Zanzibar by bus from Nairobi at the end of August. Can anybody tell me what bus line I should take. Also, where on the island would be best for me in terms of safety/ young people etc? Can you recommend budget accommodations for backpackers? Thanks!
We are thinking of taking a 2 week vacation during Ramadan, will we find it easy to find restaurants open during the day and will alcohol be available during this time. We live in Morocco so understand there might be restrictions. If you are on the ground your input would be most valued... Thanks Sue
Hi, My husband and I will be spending about 4-5 days in Zanzibar, right at the end of a month-long trip to East Africa. We will spend a couple of nights in Stone Town, and then plan to head over to the east coast to spend a couple of nights on the beach. But which beach???!! I understand that they are all stunning, but does anyone have a particular favorite? We are looking for something not completely isolated, but not really built up and touristy either. We don't want a resort, and would somewhere that offers the more cabin-like places on the beach. Any suggestion would be great! Thanks!
Am coming with wife and nine and half month daughter (makes a difference you know, each month! :-) ) to Zanzibar - aiming for 10th June to 20th June... Suggestions please? baby friendly hotels, rates, car hire if possible / required? things to do in these many days... not only stone town please... I love snorkeling and would not even mind a diving course, unless it is far far more expensive than Thailand, where I will be going later this year... Anyways, any suggestions welcome! Specially from people living there! :-) Asante sana!
Hi-anyone stayed or know ZA VILLA-north east coast of Zanzibar. We have booked the villa for a week in Sept and really looking forward to beach holiday. Any suggestions for places to visit other than stonetown. Very keen photographers. Travelling from South Africa(east london) Thanks
When is the main rainy season and when are the mangoes ripe?

My boyfrind and I are considering travelling to Zanibar after doing a safari in Kenya for our honeymoon. We'd be going late March/early April. I have heard that the rainy season starts in March. Is it worth going as we'd only be there for 4 nights?
