Can anyone please confirm if the Mountain funiculars/chairlifts operate on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The ones that I am mostly interested in are Gubałówka, Butorowy Wierch and Kasprowy Wierch. Can anyone also confirm if the buses/minibuses operate on the same dates to Polana Palenaca (for Morskie Oko), Kunisce (for Kasprowy Wierch) or Siwa Polana (for Chocholowska Valley). Such information will help me to organise better my four days in Zakopane

Hi. Group of friends heading to the Tatras for some hiking on 1st of June. I'm just wondering if we can expect snow on the higher summits or not at this time of year. I want to avoid any areas with a lot of snow as we don't have crampons etc.
Hello everyone, I am planning to visit Zakopane for the third time in early July. My friend and I are cycling from Prague down to Austria and the Danube, through Vienna and Bratislava, into Hungary and up then up through the lower Slovakian Tatras. When we get to Poland we would like to climb Rysy and also to traverse the Eagle Ridge (Orla Perc). I have done both but my friend is looking forward to the experience. What we plan to do is to cycle from Slovakia to Morskie Oko, stay overnight in the mountain hut, climb Rysy and then cycle to Zakopane to spend the night there. The following morning we would like to get an early start and catch the first cable car of the day. Does anyone know what time that will be? (Early July) Can anyone please give me a rough time to complete the ridge and descend back to Zakopane from Wlk. Woloszyn via Gasienicowa and Dolina Jaworzynka? Alternatively we could cycle from Slovakia straight to Zakopane, stay the night, catch the cable car up to do the Eagle Ridge and then spend the night at Morskie Oko. Climb Rysy the next day and either walk back to Zakopane or use public transport from Morskie Oko. Will the Mountain Hut at Morskie Oko be busy in early July? When are the Polish school holidays? Can anyone recommend accommodation in Zakopane? Any advise on our itinerary will be most welcome. Thank you in advance Regards Coddy.
Hi, I have just read in the Zakopane forum that one can book a reservation on the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch - I would be grateful for any information on how to do this.
Hi, two of us will be spending just one day in Zakopane at the beginning of May and as we will be travelling from Krakow in the morning and back there in the evening I was wondering if it would be possible to fit in both Morski Oko and also Dolina Checkolowska on the same day. We would intend using the horse drawn carriages where possible. Any information at all will be really appreciated.
Hello there, I'm interested in some information on hut-to-hut camping and backpacking in the mountains near Zakopane. Is it possible to do a three-day, two-night trip? Do you have to reserve huts/camping spots in advance? Any suggestions on a possible early May itinerary that would include a loop are welcome. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Alex Also, is there any preferred transportation to/from Zakopane from Krakow?
Heyyy!!! I whant to take the bus from Katovice airport to Katovice train-station, and from then the train from Katovice to Zakopane. My question is: DO I HAVE TO BOOK THE BUS-TICKET AND TRAIN-TICKET IN ADVANCE?
I have heard that there are some hot water parks just a few km over the border into Slovakia with wave pools and slides. Anyone know about these or if I could get public transportation from Zakopane to these places?
Hi, i'm planning a ski trip in Zakopane when i visit Krakow in Feb 08. I will travel by bus from Krakow to Zakopane which seems to be the best and cheapest option. Please can anyone give me advise on which area to stay in Zakopane, which is within walking distance of the ski slopes from my hotel. Does anybody have any advise on this subject or know any good accommodation in Zakopane. Regards Sean
My wife and I will be staying in Krakow, (for the third time) from 8th to 12th April and this time, we hope to visit Zakopane. It appears that the quickest way is to travel by bus, but I had considered train as it appears to be a scenic route. Can anyone let me know the frequency of buses and the approximate cost and also give some advice on train travel, as we may consider going one way by bus and the other by train. Many thanks and best wishes for 2008 Tom Morrice
Hi, I'm taking my wife and 2 daughters (8 & 10 yrs) to Zakopane in Feb, for the kids first experience of skiing. We're staying near the Nosal ski area and I guess we'll start off skiing there. But I noticed some other ski areas around the town (eg: Szymoszkowa), which appear to offer some longer easy runs (Nosal appears to only have short easy or one long black run?). Can you comment on Nosal, Szymoszkowa or any other areas? How far is it from Nosal to Szymoszkowa and how is it best to get there? Ski hire - is it better to hire for a week or by the day? We are planning to ski every day but might try various different areas? Which ski areas around Zakopane are best for novice skiers? Nosal originally looked best and is probably ok for the first few days, but from what I can tell the novice slopes are very short and the single longer run appears to be too advanced? Kasprowy Wierch looks great but maybe too advanced, and I read that it takes a very long time to get up there? Also, do I need to book for the ski lifts of do I pay per lift? Nosal appeared to have pre-pay cards for the lifts, are these ok to use all over Zakopane or just in Nosal? Also, we were considering sleigh rides, skidoos and/or husky sledges - any advice/recommendations would be greatfully recieved? Finally, can you advise on any good cheap local polish restauarnts? And we're thinking about a couple of meals in one of the fancier looking restaurants (eg: little Switzerland) will we need to book in advance? Sorry for all the questions, and help would be fantastic... Stuart
I know Zakopane is primarily a ski/hiking town, but do you think it might be worth it to spend a few days here, or making a day-trip of it from Krakow, in mid-May? Any insights appreciated. Thanks! Mark
is it easy to get maps of the walking trails around zakopane and are they easy to follow as i will just be going with my partner and we are just getting into the walking trips
We will arrive at Krakow midday and would like to know the best way to get to Zakopane for Christmas. I have read that the train is very slow, the roads are crowded in season and Poland has a very high accident rate. Is there a bus direct from the airport to Zakopane? Hiring a taxi seems very expensive (300zl) but I don't know far it is.
I am going to Zakopane and Nowy Targ week of March 16, 2008, what can I expect for weather?
