yosemite in early may

Which camp ground is worth using in early may for a single guy for a couple nights? Reservation's required or how easy is it to just drive up and get one? Weather in early May? How much snow is usually/currently there, especially after this winter? I'm not lookin to do any long hikes, just shorter one's mainly.
